Description of role:

We have an opportunity for a full-time and permanent HCPC registered Clinical Scientist to join our genomic services team based onsite at Manchester Science Park. As a clinical scientist you will lead a team of scientists delivering clinical molecular testing services including a Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing within a ISO15189, CQC accredited lab.


You will use your expertise as a clinical scientist to lead the delivery of NIPT service laboratory ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory requirements. You will lead the development of new clinical services, leading the implementation and validation of new tests, ensuring the delivery of high quality testing services. You will lead the troubleshooting of assays and techniques both existing and in development. To implement laboratory procedures for sample receipt, processing, IQC, analysis, checking, interpretation, preparation of reports (both standard and complex) and reporting of results.


You will supervise more junior members of the team and cultivate an open, continuous improvement culture in the lab. In partnership with others, to be responsible for the accuracy, timeliness and appropriateness of a variety of genetic testing, returning results to ordering clinicians and customers.


Key areas of responsibility:

  • To run clinical genetic testing service providing NIPT and other complex genetic tests.
  • To supervise junior staff ensuring they are trained and maintain their competence in laboratory methods used to provide clinical tests.
  • To develop and implement lab procedures to receive, track and process clinical samples.
  • To provide expertise in the clinical interpretation of test results and communication of test results to clinicians.
  • To use your expertise as a clinical scientist to assist other departments with the development of leading products and services in precision medicine and reproductive health.
  • Conduct all activities in accordance with ISO 15189 and CQC requirements, following our quality management services and promoting a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Maintain patient data integrity and regulatory compliance for all projects and documentation, adhering to GDPR, GCLP and HTA regulations.
  • Identify and address non-conformities, deviations, and risks associated with laboratory activities.
  • Develop study plans/protocols, SOPs, and technical documents, ensuring compliance and approval.
  • Stand up new clinical services in accordance with the ISO15189 standards ensuring they assays are robust, verified/validated and offer our service customers state of the art molecular testing.
  • Lead internal meetings, audits, and communication with senior management to ensure transparency and alignment.
  • Liaise with the Quality Department to maintain correct documentation and SOPs.
  • Coordinate service schedules with senior management and project managers to meet business needs.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including COSHH systems.
  • Stay updated on scientific advancements and industry trends to align with company strategy.


Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:

  • BSc in an appropriate biological science
  • State Registered Clinical Scientist
  • 3+ years’ experience working in a clinical laboratory carrying out molecular genetics testing
  • Extensive experience working under ISO 15189 Quality Management System.
  • Strong understanding of genetics, NGS, bioinformatics, diagnostics, and precision medicine.
  • Experience in Oncology testing, whole genome sequencing and Reproductive Health is desirable.
  • Ability to critically analyse and interpret scientific data.
  • Ability to concentrate and work under pressure
  • Excellent writing, oral communication, and presentation skills.
  • Experience working with the selection of suitable bioinformatics and clinical reporting tools preferred.
  • Demonstratable knowledge of patient consent, HTA, ethics and GDPR
  • Confident communicator who is happy to communicate directly with external customers.
  • Experience in the supervision of junior staff

Laboratory Technician in our Microbiology department,
you will be working as part of a team primarily testing samples of swabs, faeces, and urine from companion animals, most commonly pet dogs and cats. This is a permanent part-time position, available for 3 days/week : Friday/Saturday/Monday (22,5h/week).

In This Role

  • You will receive, prepare, and process veterinary samples (primarily swabs, urine, and faeces) for laboratory analysis and testing.
  • You will be involved in the analysis and evaluation of chemical components of urine samples, using automated instrumentation and manual techniques.
  • You will culture faecal samples and prepare them for parasitology, utilising faecal flotation and ELISA methods.
  • You will process swabs for incubation, using automated and manual methods.
  • You will process bacterial isolates for identification and susceptibility testing.
  • You will assist with stock control and recording of information for audit purposes.
  • You will have a workload which often includes samples from livestock and exotic species through regular zoo screening.
  • From day one, you'll have full autonomy in your work, but you'll also get full support when you need it.

What You Need To Succeed

  • Bachelors' degree in Biomedical Sciences/Microbiology or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • A first successful experience in a similar position is desired.
  • Ideally you will have some good knowledge or practical experience in Urinalysis, Parasitology and/or Microbiology.
  • You are very comfortable with performing automated instrumentation or manual methods.
  • You are someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment.
  • You are able to read, understand and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures.
  • You have a positive attitude and love to bring this energy into the lab every day to support your colleagues, whether working independently or as a team contributor.

Responsibilities:

Geotechnical and Materials Laboratory Technician

As our company grows and develops, we are ever expanding our teams. We have a great opportunity for a committed Laboratory Technician to join our Infrastructure Division and wear the SOCOTEC badge with pride.

We are looking for a dependable, dedicated and flexible Laboratory Technician to join our UKAS accredited team. As a member of the laboratory , it is key that you are able to thrive in a team environment, as well as independently. The fundamental part of the role it to determine the physical properties of a wide range of materials including concrete, earthworks, aggregates and bituminous mixtures to ensure compliance with specifications. All testing will be undertaken in line with a range of British, European and American standards so a good attention to detail and the ability to follow procedures is required.

The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to):

  • Work effectively within deadlines
  • Prepartion of soil samples for various tests
  • Calculate lab results

To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Basic math skills
  • Ensure the highest standard of quality
  • Undertake tasks in line with the company QHSE protocol

About Materials Testing

Our Materials Testing team perform an extensive range of testing and compliance services across a wide range of construction projects including highways, rail, airfields, ports and harbours, power stations, sports stadia in addition to new build projects across Industrial, Commercial and Residential properties. About The Role
We're seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Laboratory Technician to join our dynamic team. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge manufacturing processes in a fast-paced laboratory environment. The initial contract is for 6 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and business needs.

You'll be working across our four key laboratory areas: Analytical, Microbiology, Effluent, and Sensory, supporting a wide range of testing and quality assurance activities. This role is not solely laboratory-based - you'll also be active within the plant, carrying out sampling, equipment verifications, supporting training initiatives, and contributing to continuous improvement activities.

You'll Be Tasked With

  • Conducting routine and non-routine laboratory tests to support manufacturing operations
  • Record, analyse, and report data with precision and accuracy
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Support production teams with sample preparation, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Perform in-plant sampling and support operational teams with training and improvement projects
  • Assist in documentation and continuous improvement initiatives

About The Team

From barley to bar, our Supply Chain produces high-quality beers and ciders, prioritising safety, sustainability and innovation to keep our operations running smoothly.

You'll be based in the Quality team, whose job is to ensure every single drop of our ciders and beers is packed with the consistent, tongue-tantalising taste that we all know and enjoy. The team is also at the centre of ensuring compliance throughout our cider & beer-making process as well as championing our safety principles.

Who We're Looking For
We're seeking an enthusiastic and robust individual who can constantly prioritise and re-prioritise tasks, keeping colleagues updated on their actions in a way which instils confidence and trust.

As well as the above, the ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's or Masters Degree in Chemistry, Biology or similar science qualifications.
  • Prior experience working in Laboratories with a consolidated understanding of laboratory procedures & safety protocols.
  • Experience of using GC (Gas Chromatography) and HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) techniques is highly desirable.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Kromachem Ltd are a manufacturer and distributor of speciality colours based in Manchester, Watford and Germany. We make products for the printing ink and paint market - in particular, colour concentrates. Our products are sold all over the world, regarded as high performance and our customer service levels are second to none. We are constantly looking to push the boundaries of what is possible - developing better and smarter and more sustainable products. Our customers are ink, ink-jet and coatings companies who produce coatings for anything from food packaging labels to automotive parts.

We are looking to add a new chemist / technologist to our existing team working in Hyde, East Manchester. Salary would be competitive and reflect qualification, aptitude and ability.

The right candidate should have:

  • Good practical, technical and numeracy skills.
  • Communications skills to be able to communicate results, problems and ideas clearly, concisely and effectively.
  • Be equally at home with routine lab work as well as creative problem solving.
  • Be educated to minimum A or AS level including Maths and a Science. (We would also consider GCSE school leavers in a more junior role as laboratory technician/assistant.)
  • We are part of an international business with strong ties to customers and employees in Germany – so anyone with German language skills will be of great interest.
