We are seeking an Acute Oncology Nurse to join our dynamic team, delivering expert care to patients with cancer-related complications and emergencies, bridging the gap between acute care and oncology services. The Acute Oncology Service is a pivotal service in the Trust, acting as clinical resource to healthcare professionals in the recognition and management of acute oncology conditions, providing emotional support and education to patients and families at critical points in their cancer journey.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be required to work autonomously and cohesively with the Acute Oncology Nursing team and healthcare teams across the organisation in all matters related to Acute Oncology. You will give advice, instigate investigations and implement patient care as appropriate to manage acutely unwell oncology patients. Excellent time management skills are needed for this role to independently manage a caseload of patients whilst balancing the needs of the wider service.
You will be instrumental in the development and implementation of local and network wide management and treatment protocols and pathways. You will provide essential cross department liaison and communication to coordinate care and improve patient experience, reduce length of stay and when possible avert hospital admissions.

The Bradford HIV service is excited to offer an opportunity to develop specialist nursing skills which may lead to a substantive post in the future as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in HIV. This can either be offered as 11 hours a week secondment, working with the HIV team, with your current post being backfilled by the HIV budget, or as a 11 hours per week fixed term contract paid at band 5.
The successful applicant will work with the current HIV nursing team, to develop the skills required to work as a specialist nurse, using the National HIV Nurses association competencies and Model of Nursing. Once settled into the team you will be supported to undertake the NHIVNA/STIF intermediate study, which is an essential steppingstone to HIV specialist nursing. It is anticipated that by the end of the placement/contract the successful candidate will have the skills required to become a band 6 specialist nurse.
HIV Nurse specialists are involved in the care and support of people living with HIV from diagnosis onwards. They are an integral part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team supporting clients with their diagnosis, providing monitoring, and assisting in making treatment decisions with the patient and the MDT.
Contribute to the care needs of People living with HIV.
Gain knowledge of HIV targets and how these effect the care of our HIV patients in Bradford.
Gain knowledge of the variety of treatment options available to people living with HIV and how these impact on patients' quality of life.
Utilising good communication skills, basic clinical awareness and appropriate tools, procedures, to ensure efficient case management
Act as patient advocate and facilitator to resolve issues that may be perceived as barriers to care
Make pre planned outbound telephone calls to patients to assess needs, liaise with the CNS or members of the health care team as appropriate for proactive prevention approach to patient care
With collaboration from the CNS, continue to advise patients on individual self-care management principles and provide consistent planned follow-up to reinforce and further promote this information
Take responsibility for the maintenance of accurate paper and electronic information resources, ensuring confidentiality
Utilise Information Technology to enter, document and monitor all aspects of patient care needs and service delivery
Assist the Clinical Nurse Specialists to develop education and information resources for the public and other professionals regarding all aspects of HIV.
Deliver patient-centred, self-management support and education as necessary in conjunction with CNS team.
