AWE's Estate Services Team is currently recruiting for a Lead Facilities Manager for Data Centres and Network Systems

As the lead facility manager for AWE's data centres and network systems, you will be accountable for the provision of facilities management services to enable critical infrastructure to be maintained and available to support AWE's programme goals.

You will be working closely with our internal and government customers to deliver capability and have oversight of a team of facilities management professionals who ensure day to day operations are undertaken via hard and soft FM service contracts.

Operating on a nuclear licensed site, there is a strong compliance element to the role which requires an understanding regulatory stakeholder management, safety case assessment and emergency response arrangements.

Who are we looking for?

We do need you to have the following:

• Extensive facility and/or process management experience within a highly regulated environment.
• Ability to motivate others and adapt leadership style as required.
• Ability to identify problems, evaluate options and formulate effective process, system and organisational solutions
• General management (business and people) to manage and resolve complex cross discipline, technical and organisational issues

Whilst not to be considered a tick list, we'd like you to have experience in some of the following:

• HNC/HND in scientific or engineering discipline, or equivalent qualification in relevant subject, or equivalent experience.
• Experience in managing data centres or complex networked systems
• Previous experience of engaging with external regulators
• Capable of maintaining a high degree of effectiveness in a multitask role, managing priorities and delivering to challenging timescales
• NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health, or equivalent qualification in Occupational Safety & Health is desirable

You'll need to have the ability to work calmly and constructively in a priority changing environment and be able to manage your own workload. You will also have initiative, enthusiasm, a flexible approach, and ability to work to tight deadlines.

• Configuration and deployment of networked servers, storage, network (hardware and related software packages) and other IT system support infrastructure
• Check and validate installations, and provide reports
• Configuration and troubleshooting of different types of connectivity systems
• Monitor system performance, undertake trouble shooting and resolution and implementation of software patches and hardware replacements
• Support and train customer internal IT departments and technicians to enable them to take operational ownership and responsibility of the systems we have supplied - day to day maintenance, issue identification and resolution

• ESSENTIAL - Deep understanding of IT networks and server system configurations and set up - in particular Windows/Linux servers and networking (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN) would prove highly beneficial
• Experience with virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V) and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure) advantageous
• Strong understanding of IT security and data protection best practices
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent teamwork and communication abilities
• A qualification in Tower Climbing / Working at Height would be beneficial, but we will provide certified training for this if you do not hold a qualification - but you must "have a head for heights"

Providing 24/7 IT support for On-Prem and Cloud applications

As part of a dedicated, internal IT team, the Systems, Infrastructure and Network Engineer will provide full IT support for the wider organisation, including extensive IT systems found in large corporate engineering companies as well as On-Prem and Cloud provisions. Projects and work can vary, but the team takes pride in responding quickly and efficiently to support cases escalated from helpdesks.

Due to the nature of projects, you will be expected to be onsite quickly if required, so interested applicants do need to live in Cambridge or close to Cambridge. In general, you may only be in the office 2+ days per week. Further, you would be expected to be on-call for out-of-hours support one-week-in-four (again being able to go into the office quickly during this time; this doesn’t happen often, but the business provides a 24/7 service to their customers so the ability to provide support is required).

Requirements:

• Extensive experience in IT Systems or Network Engineering (this is not a sysadmin desktop support role).
li>Expertise and project understanding around networking (including TCP/IP, DNS, ports and protocols, routers, latency, firewalls, VPNs etc…). < i>Experience with both Windows Server systems administration (Active Directory, RADIUS, PowerShell); and Linux systems administration (Ubuntu, Apache2, OpenSSL).
• Experience with different email configurations and management (DMARC, SPF, SMTP, IMAP).

Additional experience with database administration (SQL Server, Oracle); MS 365 administration, Virtual machine hosting, Azure would be beneficial.

The role is particularly people-facing, so good communication skills and ability to translate technical jargon for non-technical audiences is important. Similarly, the ability to multitask, lead on projects and being adaptable is important.
