Job Description
Pre-Construction Director / Project Delivery Director – Utility Scale Solar & BESS
Location: Hybrid (UK) - 3 / 2 split days
Package: Competitive six-figure base + up to 50% Bonus + Benefits
About the Company
Our client is a UK-based Solar PV, Battery Storage and Onshore Wind developer with a growing pipeline of consented and late-stage projects. With strong financial backing and a progressive culture, they are now entering an exciting new phase — transitioning from pure development into full delivery ownership.
Their portfolio includes multiple co-located Solar & BESS projects, each over 50MW export capacity, with two sites entering construction next year and further projects scheduled for connection in 2027 and 2029. This is an organisation that is serious about delivery - with the capital, people, and ambition to build its own projects and scale.
The Opportunity
This is a pivotal role for an experienced delivery professional to lead pre-construction and project delivery readiness across the company’s UK portfolio.
You will take full ownership of projects from late stage development through to notice to proceed (NTP), ensuring conditions are efficiently discharged, procurement strategies are optimised, and all interfaces with DNOs, ICPs, and external engineering partners are expertly managed.
This is a chance to shape how projects are delivered — not just execute them. The business is intent on doing it once, doing it right, and establishing best-in-class delivery processes for future growth.
You’ll work closely with five project delivery leads (each responsible for individual assets), providing oversight, guidance, and assurance as these projects move towards construction. A separate Project Engineer is in place for the construction execution phase, allowing you to focus on strategic delivery and readiness.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead all pre-construction and delivery-readiness activities across a portfolio of large-scale Solar PV and Battery Storage projects.
• Drive procurement processes in collaboration with external Owner’s Engineer partners, ensuring technical and commercial robustness.
• Manage discharging of planning and grid-related conditions, coordinating with DNOs, ICPs, and environmental consultants.
• Oversee ground investigations, civils and electrical design reviews, and pre-construction due diligence.
• Champion design efficiency and “buildability” — ensuring flexibility early to avoid costly redesigns later.
• Work hand-in-hand with development, engineering, and construction teams to ensure seamless transition from RTB to NTP.
• Provide mentorship and leadership to delivery leads, establishing structure and process consistency across all projects.
• Report directly to senior management on programme progress, risks, and opportunities.
Your Background
• Proven experience delivering utility-scale Solar PV projects in the UK — ideally including co-located BESS.
• Strong understanding of pre-construction processes, from condition discharge and grid coordination to detailed design and procurement.
• Track record working with or managing DNOs, ICPs, and Owner’s Engineers.
• Deep knowledge of UK permitting and construction-readiness requirements.
• Hands-on experience with ground investigations, civils, and grid design interfaces.
• Commercially astute, with the ability to identify and mitigate delivery risk early.
• Confident communicator and influencer who can bring structure, rigour, and clarity to a fast-evolving team.
• Collaborative by nature but comfortable taking ownership of outcomes and deadlines.
Why This Role Stands Out
• Shape the delivery function: Build the framework that will define how all future projects are executed.
• Impact from day one: Two projects moving towards construction now — your expertise will directly accelerate delivery.
• Strategic scope: Work across Solar PV, BESS, and hybrid technologies with long-term grid connections through 2029.
• Empowered environment: A lean, ambitious, well-funded developer with the resources and autonomy to deliver.
