What You'll Be Doing:


As a Civil Engineering Technician, you will:

  • Assist in the preparation of civil engineering drawings and designs .

  • Familiarity with UK design guidance (e.g. Manual for Streets, DMRB, Local Authority Standards).
  • Experience or interest in highway design (training provided where necessary).
  • Knowledge of 3D design tools such as Site 3D or Civil 3D is a plus (training available).

Role Description

As a Programme Lead, you will be leading the Civil Engineering scheme on behalf of the client, managing the 100m scheme from start to finish.

Managing the client team on site, ensuring the project is being completed against the contractual agreement and design specification. Leading Technical, Commercial and Operational function with a team under you, managing these elements with the associated contractors on site.

Main responsibilities will vary on a day-to-day basis but could include:

  • Ensuring the Programme is being delivered against the NEC contractual agreements.
  • Manage design development, construction and commissioning.
  • Work with the internal professional advisers to ensure that works proceed in accordance with the planning permission, licenses and compliance with all relevant regulations.

This role needs someone on site, a visible leader to both the internal team and stakeholders. As well as an escalation point for any issues that occur with the Technical or Operational aspects of the project.

Required Experience

  • Formal qualification - HNC / HND or Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Proven project experience delivering a 50m+ project, ideally working in partnership with the client or on behalf of the client.
  • Full driving licence

+ Bridge strengthening and repair, inspections and assessments
+ Using FEA and other structural analysis software.

+ Current work includes bridge/tunnel design and assessment using FEA and scripting to perform linear and nonlinear analyses.
+ The position is predominantly office based but some travel may be required occasionally for site visits, inspections, or to attend meetings.
**What we will be looking for you to demonstrate.**
+ It is anticipated that you will be a Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer or working towards chartership. You will have a good degree (Batchelors or Masters) or PhD in Bridge or Civil Engineering or a related subject. It is expected that your skills and experience will include the following:
+ Practical knowledge and experience of bridge design, maintenance and assessment, gained working on both construction sites and the design office;
+ Experience of finite element analysis and structural analysis software packages such as LUSAS, MIDAS Civil, Robot Structural Analysis Pro, SuperSTRESS and AutoDesk Structural Bridge Design.
+ Scripting and automation using Python, VBScript or JavaScript
+ Practical knowledge and experience of project management of bridge projects;
+ Understanding and experience of use of Eurocodes and their application to bridge design;
+ Experience of design in or assessment of steel, reinforced and prestressed concrete bridges
+ Proven working knowledge of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB)
+ Proven knowledge in design, maintenance and supervision of structures related projects together track record of innovation in design and management of structures. Ideally this should include build, maintenance, assessment and strengthening of bridges and civil structures infrastructure;
+ A problem-solving and continuous improvement mindset
+ BiM and BRiM systems, processes and software
+ Office 365, Digital tools and ways of working

We have new opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Project Engineer based with our Client in Reading, Berkshire.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive individual to work on diverse and challenging projects. You will play a crucial role in the successful delivery of the passive fire protection for one of the UKs major projects, supporting the Project Manager and site teams in all technical, planning, and coordination aspects.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Support:
Provide technical assistance and guidance to the site team, interpreting drawings, specifications, and design information.

Quality Assurance:
Assist in implementing and monitoring quality control procedures, ensuring works are completed to the highest standards and in accordance with project specifications and regulations.

Programme Management:
Support the Project Manager in developing, monitoring, and updating project programmes, identifying potential delays and proposing mitigation strategies.

Subcontractor Coordination:
Liaise with subcontractors, ensuring their works align with the project programme and technical requirements.

Health & Safety:
Promote and adhere to strict health and safety standards on site, conducting regular inspections and contributing to risk assessments.

Problem Solving:
Proactively identify and resolve technical issues and challenges that arise during the construction process.

Reporting:
Prepare regular progress reports for the Project Manager, highlighting key achievements, challenges, and upcoming activities.

Stakeholder Liaison:
Contribute to effective communication with clients, consultants, and other stakeholders as required.


SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.

2-5 years of proven experience as a Project Engineer or Site Engineer on construction projects in the UK.

Experience and understanding of passive fire protection and fire stopping systems is desirable but not essential.

Solid understanding of construction methods, techniques, and regulations.

Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.

Experience with project programming software (e.g., Primavera P6) is highly desirable.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Highly organised with meticulous attention to detail.

Full UK driving license and willingness to travel to various project sites as required.

CSCS card holder (or equivalent).

Holder or ability to obtain & hold SC (or above) clearance is required.
For clearance purposes, British Citizenship is required, and not to have worked outside the UK for the past 5 years.
