This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects in renewable energy and power generation. You'll be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing advanced PLC and SCADA/DCS systems, contributing to upgrades, system improvements, and new builds in highly regulated industrial environments.
They're based in Glasgow & operate a hybrid working model with 3 days per week on-site.
Main Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement PLC-based control systems and configure advanced SCADA/DCS platforms.
- Create and review functional and detailed design specifications, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Lead small projects or sub-teams, performing internal and customer acceptance testing.
- Drive quality assurance and ensure effective delivery across the full project lifecycle.

A leading Mechanical and Electrical contractor, specialising in control systems for process control, automation, and telemetry primarily within the water industry, is seeking a Control Systems Engineer .
Your Role
The Control Systems Engineer will take ownership and be responsible for the full life cycle delivery of projects in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner, with a strong focus on quality and customer satisfaction. The role involves working on specialist projects mainly within the UK Utilities sector and requires a committed, flexible, and proactive attitude.
Key responsibilities include:
Conducting site surveys and producing clear, detailed reports.
Creating detailed and professional functional design specifications (FDS).
Developing, configuring, and modifying bespoke programs for PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems.
Preparing and delivering Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Customer FATs (CFAT), and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) reports.
Producing Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
Performing on-site installation, testing, fault finding, and commissioning.
Managing project-related correspondence, plans, deliverables, and documentation.
Supporting team members in project delivery and training.
Projects vary in size and complexity, providing continuous challenges. This role will help expand project capacity and enable the tendering of larger contracts. Mentoring less experienced team members is an important part of this position.

Essential Requirements
Experienced in Industrial Automation, specifically Allen Bradley PLC ladder logic and FTView HMI, with solid knowledge of process control techniques.
Strong commissioning skills, ensuring safe project delivery with minimal disruption to surrounding processes. (Site work may involve occasional travel and overnight stays.)
Electrical awareness, working safely around electrical panels and equipment.
Attention to detail, ensuring all documentation and visualisations (e.g., HMI) are clear, accurate, and professionally presented. PLC code should be well structured, labelled, and functional.
Strong problem-solving skills, capable of resolving technical and non-technical issues to meet business and client expectations.
Effective communication skills to liaise professionally with colleagues, clients, and contractors.
Good written English for producing clear, professional documents.
Ability to self-manage and lead projects to completion.
Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
Good computer literacy and IT skills.
Willingness and ability to train others.
Valid UK Driving License.
Desirable Skills
Experience with ControlLogix, CompactLogix, MicroLogix, and SLC PLCs.
Knowledge of WonderWare Achestra System Platform & InTouch HMI.
Experience with industrial networking protocols (Profibus, DeviceNet, Modbus, ControlNet, TCP/IP, fibre, etc.).
Familiarity with Iconics (Genesis 32 and 64).
Instrumentation experience (level, pressure, flow sensors, variable speed drives, etc.).
Electrical experience with control panels and MCCs, including fault finding, repair, and modification.
