We’re looking for a candidate who:
  • Is degree qualified in a relevant engineering field and who is currently working towards or would like to work towards becoming a Chartered Engineer through CIBSE, IMechE, SoPHE, ICE or other relevant body.
  • Has experience in the design and coordination of public health systems including hot & cold water services, above & below ground drainage, rainwater collection & disposal systems, water conservation & recycling, pollution control and waste management / treatment on a variety of project
  • Can develop specialist systems such as fire suppression (sprinklers), medical and lab gases, and cavity drainage, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Is able to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions from concept through to construction, including site visits and technical support.
  • Can produce technical documentation including drawings, specifications, and reports using industry-standard tools, while contributing to sustainable and low-carbon design strategies & has worked within a BIM environment using Revit or similar software (knowledge of parametric design beneficial).

About the Role:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Public Health Specialist based with the public health team in Lambeth, and working on behalf of all six boroughs with the South East London Integrated Care System (SEL ICS) footprint (Lambeth, Greenwich, Bromley, Southwark, Lewisham and Bexley). 

This is a joint role which requires cross-team integration. The post holder will be based in the Health Improvement and Wider determinants of Health team in the Lambeth Public Health division, and will also be able to make connections to other Public Health teams across SEL. The post holder will also work with the KHP & SEL ICS Prevention, Wellbeing and Equity (PW&E) Team to enable integration and collaboration across the Prevention portfolio. . The post holder will work with and attend meetings at organisations across the six boroughs. As SEL ICS structures and arrangements are emerging, reporting arrangements will be reviewed.

The successful candidate will apply their public health skills in a range of spheres and work with a range of partners to improve population health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities across South East London.  Areas of work may change over time.

The post holder will have experience of working in public health settings or similar with skills and competencies to lead on specific aspects of public health.

  • Attend DTMs/client meetings and site inspections.
  • Work with minimal supervision and you may be responsible for your own individual projects. In this role the ability to react efficiently to multiple tasks and tight deadlines is essential.


About you

To be successful in this role you’ll need:

  • Proven experience working as a Public Health Engineer or closely related role, with a track record delivering on a variety of complex projects.
  • Understanding of all drainage services including rainwater and domestic water services required.
  • Use of relevant software/tools such as Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Self-awareness, an open mind, and a spirit of generosity.
  • Conversant with relevant British Standards.
  • Consultancy experience.

The council is now looking to expand its public health leadership with the appointment of a Consultant in Public Health - a role critical to helping shape a happier, healthier and more fulfilling future for its residents.

About the Role

This is a pivotal and rewarding opportunity for an ambitious and values-driven public health leader. You will work as part of a committed team, helping to drive forward real improvements in the wellbeing and outcomes of residents - even in the face of challenging circumstances.

  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams to deliver a public health portfolio including sexual and reproductive health, health protection and public protection
  • Day-to-day responsibility for enabling, driving and facilitating an increased council focus on the development of collective improved wellbeing outcomes for residents
  • Ensure the successful delivery of sexual health services, NHS HealthCheck, as well as providing specialist public health support to ICSs - this will include taking responsibility for the relevant outcome indicators within the UKHSA, OHID, NHS (and Social Care) Outcome frameworks and working across organisational boundaries
  • Manage budgets circa .6m expenditure
  • Deputise for the DPH as required
  • Take a practical and "hands-on" approach to addressing public health challenges.
  • Share Stoke's vision for tackling inequalities through a broad wellbeing-based approach

Requirements:

  • You don't need to have experience in a particular portfolio area, as long as you are a qualified Consultant in Public Health and are passionate about improving health and wellbeing of residents and the city
  • You need to be able to take a strategic view of the wider determinants of population health, using all aspects of the portfolio to drive the best possible outcomes for the people of Stoke-on-Trent, connecting with colleagues across the council and external partners to support the delivery of its corporate strategy and the Health & Wellbeing strategy
  • Inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List/UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists (with a license to practice) or within 6 months of CCT at the date of interview.
