Location: Sheffield
Salary: Up to £46,000 + Bonus + Excellent Benefits

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Manufacturing Quality Engineer to join a leading medical equipment manufacturer based in Sheffield. This role is pivotal in ensuring product quality, supporting regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement within a highly regulated industry.
The successful candidate will have a strong quality background and the ability to collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and customers to maintain the highest standards of quality and compliance in line with ISO and QSR requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver and document training on work instructions, policies, and procedures to ensure team members are fully competent before working independently.
- Use quality tools to implement process improvements, including process flowcharting, Pareto analysis, SPC, DOE, and gauge R&R.
- Act as the primary customer liaison for quality issues and manage complaints efficiently.
- Collect, analyse, and present data using statistical methodologies to support product and process improvements.
- Support the development of QMS deliverables and APQP activities, including risk analysis, FMEA, CAPA, and validation plans.
- Conduct process capability studies to determine machine and process performance.
- Develop inspection criteria connecting customer requirements to manufacturing processes, including sampling plans and gauging methods.
- Support continuous improvement and productivity initiatives.
- Perform internal audits, quality reviews, and prepare reports for compliance and performance monitoring.
- Review engineering drawings for correct application of GD&T, material specifications, and key inspection characteristics.
- Recommend improvements to processes, products, and quality standards.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to resolve production and quality challenges.
- Ensure strict adherence to the Quality Management System (QMS) and regulatory standards.
Experience & Requirements
- Degree in Engineering OR Science discipline OR recognised engineering apprenticeship.
- Experience in a highly regulated industry, ideally medical equipment (Aerospace or Automotive also considered).
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes – ideally casting or forging experience.
- Familiarity with ISO, QSR, and FDA regulatory requirements.
- Experienced in PPAP, GD&T, validation processes, and statistical quality tools.

The business are a start up precision manufacturing business, making a storm in the world of CNC machining. Their business model is different to the usual precision machining business… as they are looking to set up multiple smaller machine shops across the UK and Internationally! They are supplying critical parts into the Aerospace and Defence industries mainly, so the work they do is high precision and high importance.
The Role;
This is a factory-based role, ensuring quality standards are correct throughout all the manufacturing facilities. You will ensure the QMS is maintained and developed, and all parts are manufactured to correct quality standards. You will carry out internal and external audits, support compliance through the business and carry out supplier quality duties as well. You need to understand process and paperwork!

Mission of the position
The Manufacturing Quality Manager will oversee all activities related to the Quality Plan and ensure compliance with the Quality Management System across various projects. This role will report to the Head of Quality in the UK.
Functions and responsibilities
- Lead the Manufacturing Quality team.
- Responsible for the completion of all quality-related deliverables, including the Inspection Plan, Safety-Related Defects, Control Sheets, Modifications, Fleet Checks, Campaigns, and other associated tasks.
- Hold the responsibility and authority to halt manufacturing activities if quality or safety requirements are not met.
- Have the authority to approve or withhold product release if quality standards are not satisfied.
- Liaise with customers to arrange on-site activities, set priorities, and resolve emerging quality issues throughout the project.
- Assess manufacturing processes, materials, and staff in special processes such as painting, bonding and sealing, torque tightening, crimping, and riveting.
- Maintain up-to-date quality documentation in digital files.
- Manage incidents and nonconformities related to manufacturing activities (NCRs and MNCRs).
- Monitor and verify changes implemented by Manufacturing and own Modification Forum.
- Assist manufacturing with analysis and problem-solving as required.
- Conduct analysis to produce indicators, statistics, and process improvement plans.
- Provide multi-site support for internal and final inspections with clients, and other activities requiring quality verification. Promote a quality culture throughout the company
Training required
Required professional experience
Degree Qualified or significant experience in a relevant field.
Knowledge of quality tools (e.g. root cause analysis).
Extensive knowledge of ISO 9001 standard, IRIS standard and technical regulations applicable to the rail sector (EN, BS).
Strong IT skills, familiar with Microsoft packages.
Able to stay motivated, positive and focussed whilst working in a pressured environment.
