Overview:
As a Lecturer at the Victoria College of Arts & Design, you are expected to play a key role in delivering, maintaining, and continuously enhancing the high standards of teaching, mentoring, and academic support that we aim to provide for our students.
You will play a key role in designing, delivering, and assessing undergraduate and / or postgraduate modules and programmes.
You will primarily teach across the Business & Management for Creatives Certificate of Higher Education although there may be opportunities to teach on any of our creative courses as business needs require.
This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping, delivering and maintaining Creative Business and Arts and Design curriculum, validated by Arts University Plymouth (AUP), our Higher Education Partner.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Teaching and Module Delivery:
Plan, develop, and deliver high-quality, student-centred lectures, seminars, tutorials, and workshops for assigned modules.
Utilise a range of best-practice teaching methods to support various learning styles, fostering engagement and inclusivity.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of subject areas, ensuring course content is relevant, current, and aligned with contemporary industry practice and research insight.
2. Assessment and Feedback:
Design, manage and assess formative and summative coursework assignments, ensuring flexibility, fairness, transparency, and relevance.
Provide succinct, constructive, coherent and timely feedback to students, using written, recorded or written media, designed to aid students in their academic reflection, progress and development of core skills.
Ensure that grading and feedback is in line with best practice and standards across the English Higher Education sector.
3. Student Support and Guidance:
Act as an academic advisor and mentor to students, providing guidance on academic matters and supporting their professional aspirations.
Organise and participate in student engagement activities and additional, non-curricular, learning and academic integrity support sessions.
Address individual student needs, such as reasonable adjustments for students with disabilities, and refer to appropriate support services as necessary.
4. Curriculum and Module Development:
Work collaboratively with faculty, management, students and external stakeholders to develop, modify and enhance curricula so that it always reflects contemporary industry and academic trends.
As appropriate, devise, design, manage and deliver the continuous improvement of teaching resources, such as updating reading lists, case studies, practical equipment, practical exercises, and online learning content.
Participate, as appropriate and when requested, in all Academic Development Committees including curriculum review committees, considering such things as the development of new and revised programmes.
5. Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement:
Adhere to all VCAD and Partner institution policies, procedures, and quality assurance standards.
Engage in peer review processes to improve and share good practices across teaching methods.
Participate in teaching observation and evaluation processes to ensure good quality support, development and enhancement of teaching practice across faculty.
6. Professional Development:
Participate in professional development activities, keeping abreast of innovations and developments within the field of higher education teaching and learning and regulatory requirements.
7. Administrative and Departmental Responsibilities:
Undertake, as required, administrative duties related to teaching, timetable management, module coordination, course management, marking, grading and other associated administrative tasks concerned with the efficient running of the Board, as well as any other appropriate duties reasonably requested by your line manager, including attendance and participation in departmental meetings.
Actively contribute to departmental goals and participate in activities such as open days, student recruitment, induction events, knowledge transfer and other outreach work.
Support VCAD initiatives, such as diversity and inclusion efforts, digital learning, and community collaboration.
8. Staff Management Responsibilities
Holders of any Lecturer post may have line management responsibilities as per their various and occasional non-substantive role, such as module or programme leader. These roles will be recognised through such procedures as remission of teaching hours or honorarium payments and will be reasonably negotiated with the Academic Dean and VCAD Director and in keeping with established VCAD policy.
Qualifications & Experience: Essential (E) Desirable (D)
- An appropriate Undergraduate or Masters degree (E)
- Confidence and ability to communicate complex information to a class of students. (E)

Where you'll shine:
As a visionary designer with artistic passion, you will lead the creation and evolution of David Harber's New, Bespoke, and Classic products while serving as a confident spokesperson for the brand. You will own the full design process: from research and ideation to concept and innovation - translating David Harber's creative direction into elegant, commercially successful products that honour the founder's legacy.
With strong design fundamentals and an eye for beauty, you will inspire both your team and the wider business. Leading and developing the creative team, you will foster curiosity, push boundaries, and unlock new potential. Collaborating closely with Engineering, Operations, and Marketing, you will energise stakeholders and drive exceptional results across the company.
Externally, you will act as a figurehead for the brand, representing David Harber within the global landscape and interior design community. An excellent orator, storyteller, and natural networker, you will forge strong relationships across the luxury design world in the UK and abroad. A willingness to travel frequently is essential as you champion the brand on an international stage.
What you'll shape:
As Design Director, you will be the driving force behind David Harber's creative vision - shaping new concepts into elegant, commercially successful products while keeping our Classic range fresh and vital. You'll transform client briefs into inspiring bespoke proposals, experiment boldly with materials and finishes, and lead multiple projects from sketch to proposal with precision and flair.
Beyond the studio, you'll be a global ambassador for the brand, representing David Harber at high-profile UK and international design events, leading thought-provoking CPDs, and building influential networks across the design world. You'll work closely with consultants and clients worldwide, bringing ideas to life in the most prestigious spaces.
At the heart of the role is leadership. You will inspire and mentor a talented creative team, setting the standard for design excellence while fostering innovation and curiosity. With a strong strategic vision, you'll collaborate with senior leaders to guide the business forward, and with exceptional communication you'll unite teams, stakeholders, and clients around bold ideas and shared success.
About You:
You'll bring a degree in visual or product design (or equivalent experience) and extensive senior-level expertise, ideally within the luxury sector. With a strong grasp of historical, classical, and contemporary design, and an eye on current trends, you'll balance creativity with commercial awareness. Confident in face-to-face client interactions, you'll translate complex briefs into elegant solutions while inspiring trust and collaboration. Exceptional communication and networking skills are essential, alongside proven experience leading, motivating, and developing a creative team. Role Overview
The Design Director / Head of Design will oversee the entire design process, from research and concept development through to final collections. This role requires someone with deep fashion knowledge, strong industry awareness, and an instinctive understanding of SRVC's identity and aesthetic. The successful candidate will be able to translate cultural and creative references into distinctive pieces that resonate with buyers, press, and customers. They will lead and mentor the design team, ensure the brand identity is expressed consistently across collections, and work closely with production, sales, and marketing to deliver collections that are both creatively strong and commercially successful.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the design and development of all seasonal collections.
- Lead and mentor the design team, ensuring output is innovative, relevant, and delivered to deadlines.
- Direct research into fabrics, silhouettes, techniques, and references to inform collections.
- Guide sketching, fittings, and development of key pieces through to final samples.
- Work closely with product development, production, and suppliers to ensure quality and design integrity are maintained.
- Ensure collections are creatively distinctive while appealing commercially to buyers and aligning with showroom requirements.
- Manage design timelines to align with the critical path for showroom, sales, and production deadlines.
- Stay connected to the wider fashion landscape, including cultural movements and competitor activity.
- Represent SRVC within the industry and through networks that strengthen the brand's positioning.
Key Skills & Experience
- 8–10+ years of womenswear design experience, with proven leadership in a senior role.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating innovative, wearable design and successful collection development.
- Excellent knowledge of garment construction, fabrics, and development processes. Strong leadership and ability to build and inspire a team.
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and confident working to deadlines across seasonal calendars.
- Commercial awareness and experience in developing collections that perform with buyers and within showroom environments.
- Strong industry presence and ability to maintain valuable professional relationships.
