General Critical Care in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary are currently in a position to recruit into Band 5 vacancies.
We have fantastic opportunities for Registered Nurses to join our highly dynamic, specialist unit and work alongside the multi-disciplinary team to deliver high quality Critical Care nursing.
Applicants should demonstrate excellent core values, a strong sense of team spirit, personal motivation and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Critical Care offer an extensive Education programme for new staff to complete with the support of their senior colleagues and the Practice Education team. The Education programme is structured around the National Competency Framework for Registered Nurses in Adult Critical Care. Following completion of the National Competencies, staff will be expected to undertake an academic module in Critical Care nursing at university level.
The General Critical Care Unit has 28 funded beds across 2 areas within the hospital. Patients admitted require either level 2 or level 3 care for a broad spectrum of critical illnesses.
Working in Aberdeen's General Critical Care Unit affords the opportunity to train and work in the Hyperbaric Chamber, which is the only category 1 Hyperbaric Chamber in Scotland. We provide an elective service for a variety of conditions and a 24 hour emergency service to treat divers suffering from decompression illness.
In 2018, Aberdeen became the first Major Trauma Centre in Scotland and now plays a key role in leading the delivery of specialist trauma care. The North of Scotland Major Trauma Centre, based in Aberdeen, is one of the largest health campuses in Europe and is now part of an inclusive and collaborative Trauma Network.
Additionally, in 2020, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary General Critical Care unit was commissioned as the only Scottish ECMO centre. The ECMO service is delivered by a dedicated multi-disciplinary team of expert staff who have continued to develop the service. Aberdeen has a platinum award for ECMO service delivery, one of only 20 centres around the world to achieve this. There will be opportunity to apply for further training and development within the ECMO team for those staff that demonstrate the required academic and clinical aptitude.

- Proficiency in managing critically ill patients with complex medical conditions.
- Advanced skills in assessment, monitoring, and intervention for critically ill patients.
- Experience with mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring, and advanced drug therapies.
- Strong understanding of ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) and BLS (Basic Life Support) protocols.
- Excellent clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

This role sits within the Clinical and Patient Services team at Fresenius Medical Care UK. The department is dedicated to delivering high-quality clinical education and support across the company’s therapy portfolio, including dialysis treatments. As a Therapy Specialist Nurse, you’ll play a key role in training NHS staff and patients, providing hands-on clinical support, and contributing to business growth through strong stakeholder relationships.
Are you an experienced Critical Care or Intensive Care Nurse looking for a new challenge?
We are looking for a talented and highly motivated individual to deliver exceptional training and education to our NHS customers, across our critical care portfolio. If you are an RGN with significant clinical and operational experience within the NHS and a proven track record of planning, delivering and assessing clinical training, we would love to speak to you.
Experience of working in Critical Care / Intensive Care Units is essential. A formal teaching and assessing qualification are preferred but not essential for the right candidate.
This role is full time, 37.5hrs a week, working variable hours between 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
This is a field-based position involving extensive travel across the Southwest region, with regular overnight stays. Candidates must hold a valid full UK driving licence to meet the requirements of the role.
Your Responsibilities:
- Be supporting the development of new business and the protection of existing business through the delivery of high-quality clinical training and education to end users of our products.
- Be involved in developing and delivering added value clinical training to groups and individuals within the NHS and providing support to nursing and medical staff on an on-going basis.
- Need to have an awareness of competitor products, services and activity.
- Be able to build and maintain relationships with key customers as identified in Territory Action Plans.
- Work closely and pro-actively with your Regional Business Manager to ensure all activities are aligned to the Territory Action Plan and overarching strategy for the business.
Your Profile:
- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
- Proven Critical Care or Intensive Care experience
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with healthcare professionals
- Confident in delivering training and education to clinical teams
- Self-motivated and able to work independently in a field-based role
- Willingness to travel extensively across the assigned region, including regular overnight stays
- Full, valid UK driving licence is essential

We focus on critical care areas (OR and ICU) and go further across the full continuum of care to avoid perioperative complications and respiratory compromise. This is a 12 months maternity cover where you will be responsible for selling and implementing the Medtronic Acute Care & Monitoring (ACM) products and solutions to Medtronic customers and prospects in Scotland, with an enhanced focus on clinical and outcome-based benefits of our solutions. Full clean driver's license required.
**Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:**
+ Execute sales activities across the healthcare setting for the Pulse Oximetry, Capnography and Brain Monitoring portfolio throughout the Territory
+ Report to the Regional Sales Manager and working in conjunction with the Therapy Specialists to protect, grow and execute sales targets, in line with the ACM strategy and business plan both to the NHS and private hospitals
+ Build a thorough understanding of the ACM portfolio and their corresponding disease states, delivering sales execution and providing customer education on the safe and effective use of our products
+ Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of Medtronic and competitor solutions in the UK, proactively communicating news to the sales team, marketing and management teams
+ Build and maintain an effective network of key customers and stakeholders, enabling revenue growth through market development and share gain
+ Complete all defined reports, customer records and corporate information within the Medtronic reporting system
**Required Knowledge and Experience:**
+ Outstanding interpersonal skills and a consistent team-player with excellent professional conduct
+ Proactive, clear and concise communication skills both verbal and written
+ The ability to effectively identify and negotiate with different stakeholders
+ Self-motivated with a proven track record in independent, successful execution against deadlines
+ Natural ability to spot a business opportunity
+ Sound presentation skills to educate and demonstrate products to a variety of clinical audiences
Professional experience from the medical technology or pharmaceuticals industry would be an added advantage.
