THE ROLE
We are seeking a Data Governance Manager to lead and evolve our data governance strategy across NextEnergy Group as we transition to a new cloud data platform. This role will be pivotal in ensuring data integrity, compliance, and accessibility across our business units, enabling high-quality decision-making and supporting our mission to lead the transition to clean energy.
You will work closely with stakeholders across all business units, Legal & the Technology & Digital Services function to embed best practices and drive a culture of data stewardship.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement an updated data governance framework aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements
- Coordinate activities such as data quality assessments, data cataloguing, data lineage, data stewardship & data ethics
- Partner with Legal and Compliance teams to ensure GDPR and other regulatory adherence, including overseeing the completion of DPIAs
- Establish Data Owner roles across the organization and consequently act as a trusted advisor to them, being approachable and pragmatic to ensure that all risks related to data are raised & dealt with quickly
- Work with various business stakeholders to understand their business requirements and consequent data needs, applying these to our data governance framework identifying risks & challenges
- Monitor & report on the performance and compliance of data governance policies & metrics to identify & resolve any gaps or issues
- Ensure a data risk framework is in place to capture, profile, risk assess & prioritise the remediation of data quality issues across the Group, working with the Data Owners to prioritise data related activities, ensuring outcomes are delivered to agreed standards and timelines.
- Define and maintain data policies, standards, and procedures across the organisation
- Communicate the importance of data governance and promote a data-driven culture within the organization.
- Work closely with colleagues in Technology & Digital Services to ensure that our data architecture supports the data governance framework.

My client is one of the largest financial institutions headquartered in Japan, with an established presence across all consumer and corporate banking businesses. Through its subsidiaries and affiliates, they offer a diverse range of financial services, including commercial banking, leasing, securities, credit card, consumer finance and other services.
They are looking for a Information Governance Lead to join the EMEA Data Management Group on an initial 6 month contract. You will be working Monday to Friday, standard office hours with the occasional out of hours requirement in line with business needs.
Purpose of Job
The Information Governance Lead is a critical role within the data office and wider Group. You will leverage your knowledge and expertise to lead Information Governance support and services. The role will interface with the SMEs across the organisation and work with the Director of Information Governance to deliver the IG strategy aligned to the bank’s business strategy and core Business As Usual workstreams
Aligned to the strategy and business priorities, this role will work closely with teams across the EMEA Data Office, IT, Legal, Compliance and Change Management functions to shape IG for EMEA. The role will support the breadth of BAU and project work across the Information Governance Team, with specific responsibilities for providing data privacy, records management and data classification expertise. The role also requires an ability to educate and convince stakeholders at all levels on the essential nature of this role, as well as a clear understanding and articulation of the need for IG controls and the benefits they bring.
You must be willing to challenge the status quo in an empathic manner, while helping the wider Data Office team to have an ethos of openness and transparency that will help us nurture real business innovation.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Advise the business on IG management enquiries
- Review and advise the business on the completion of Privacy Risk Assessments and the implementation of mitigating measures

Important Responsibilities include and are not limited to
- Framework Ownership: Lead, operationalise, and mature the Data Governance framework, guiding Data Ownership roles.
- Policy & Quality Enforcement: Guide application of Data Policies, Standards, and Processes. Monitor data risks, oversee Data Quality controls and Issue Management, and report on important data quality metrics to reduce data issues.
- Process Improvement: Identify automation opportunities and enhance data management capabilities to refine operations and ensure efficient data flows.
- Governance Forum Management: Lead the Data Governance Working Group and launch/operationalise the Data Committee, running forums to strengthen data culture.
- Data Transparency Enhancement: Champion metadata management, data catalogs, and business glossaries, improving of data dictionaries, metadata, and lineage for discoverability and trust.
Experience that will put you ahead of the curve
- Experience in a dedicated Data Governance role, or a similar senior position with data governance responsibilities.
- Expertise in Data Governance frameworks and policies within a growing organisation.
- Data quality management, metadata management, and data lineage concepts and practices.
- Implement process improvements within data management, aiming for increased efficiency and reliability.
- Chair meetings and lead working groups, promoting collaboration and driving outcomes.
- Knowledge of data management frameworks, such as DAMA or DCAM, and data privacy regulations.
- Project management capabilities or implementing Data Management tooling
- Proficiency with SQL and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) data stack or similar leading data platforms.
