The Role 

We are seeking a (Gen)AI Development Lead (m/f/d) to spearhead AI feature development for our banking products. You’ll be the central driver of our GenAI strategy—designing, coding, and deploying production-grade features that integrate into our core banking software. 

This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will build prototypes, deliver production-ready code, and define the technical vision for AI within SAP Fioneer. You will also grow and mentor a dedicated AI development team and ensure best practices for scalable, secure AI solutions. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Lead the technical design, development, and deployment of (Gen)AI-powered features for our banking products 
  • Be part of the complete innovation process for AI capabilities – all the way from rapid prototypes and demos to production-grade solutions that can be deployed at large banks globally 
  • Work closely with core banking solutions and data – enabling AI agents to interact with transaction data, automate business processes, and generate insights as well as recommendations for our banking customers and their clients 
  • Lead and further grow a high-performing AI development team, setting technical direction and mentoring developers 
  • Collaborate with product managers, solution leads, and our customers to ensure AI features meet requirements and deliver tangible business value 
  • Provide architectural and technical guidance to implementation teams, including where AI features touch SAP/ABAP components 

Requirements

What You Bring 

Technical expertise 

  • 7+ years of software development with a track record of delivering AI/ML solutions in production 
  • Deep understanding of different approaches to integrate LLMs into enterprise solutions
  • Hands-on experience with LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex or similar frameworks 
  • Strong programming skills (e.g. Python, Java, JavaScript, C++, R) 
  • Cloud-native development experience (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud) with containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)  
  • Proven ability to integrate AI into enterprise-grade systems; SAP/ABAP exposure and experience is a strong plus 
  • Experience in leading and scaling development teams

Qualifications: PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related quantitative field. Minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral or industry research experience in AI/ML. Proven track record of impactful research, evidenced by publications in top-tier venues (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ACL, etc.). Deep theoretical understanding and practical expertise in machine learning algorithms, deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch), and programming languages (Python). Experience with distributed computing and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure). Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Excellent communication and presentation abilities, with the capacity to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote-first environment.
