Position Overview:
We’re seeking an experienced and business-minded lawyer to join our legal team. This individual will be instrumental in driving legal strategy across the organization while serving as a trusted partner to senior leadership and business unit leaders. The ideal candidate is a strong generalist who brings subject matter expertise in one or more areas of consumer finance, legal acumen, exceptional writing and analytical skills, and the confidence to lead cross-functional teams through complex legal and business decisions.
How you’ll make an impact:
- Legal Strategy & Business Partnership:
- Support the Chief Legal Officer/General Counsel in providing strategic legal guidance across the organization. Offer practical legal solutions that align with the company’s goals in a fast-paced, consumer financial environment.
- HR & Employment Law Support:
- Advise on employment-related matters including performance management, workplace investigations, terminations, internal policy development, and compliance with federal and state labor laws. Act as a legal partner to the HR team in day-to-day and strategic matters.
- Vendor & Contract Management:
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contracts with a focus on vendor agreements, technology contracts, and service arrangements. Assist with the development of templates, negotiation standards, and best practices for contract efficiency and risk mitigation.
- Consumer Privacy
- Knowledge of domestic (federal and state) and international consumer privacy protections including, but not limited to, GLBA and GDPR.
- Ensuring the company’s compliance with various privacy laws and regulations, such as GLBA, GDPR, CCPA, and others relevant to the company's operations.
- Providing legal guidance on privacy-related matters to various functional teams within the company, including product development, marketing, and information security.
- Providing legal support to cross-functional teams that identify, assess, and mitigate privacy risks associated with the company's products, services, and data processing activities.
- Intellectual Property
- Inventory, manage, register and monitor the company’s intellectual property including federal and state protected trademarks and service marks.
- Cross-Functional Legal Support:
- Collaborate with teams across the business—including Operations, Finance, Product, and Compliance—to identify and address legal risks, support transactions, and ensure adherence to applicable laws and company policies.
- Regulatory Experience:
- Support project-based legal work, regulatory interpretations, or external communications. Help the company stay current with evolving laws and industry regulations. Regularly review and update policies and procedures designed to keep the company and its operations in compliance with federal and state consumer financial protection laws and regulations.
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience post-law school, with preference given to those how have 2–3 years of in-house legal counsel experience or the equivalent (seconded lawyer, for example).
- Experience in consumer financial services or similar regulated industry (non-banking).
- Demonstrated experience working across HR/legal domains and supporting the HR function.
- Strong understanding of vendor management and contract negotiation best practices.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to present to senior leaders and board members.
- Knowledge of HTML and IronClad, a plus.
- Able to work independently and lead cross-functional legal projects.
