SALARY AND BENEFITS : £50- £70k package DOE + healthcare
THE ROLE : Our client is looking for a Civil Design Engineer to help them provide effective solutions to complex problems across a wide range exciting and challenging projects. The successful Civil Design Engineer will do this by utilising the latest design & analysis software and will be able to produce conceptual designs.
YOU MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING :
- A degree in Civil Engineering along with at least 2 years post graduate experience
- Previous experience of working in a 3D environment within the Civil environment
- The ability to take on your own work, working with Civil Technicians to produce contract deliverables, with the emphasis on teamwork
- Developed skills in the use of relevant software, but also able to produce conceptual designs using hand analysis methods.

About the role
We’re looking for an innovative and passionate Civil Design Engineer to support Primary and Grid Substation projects (11kV–132kV) from concept through to commissioning. You’ll work developing detailed civil design packs aligned with current policies and engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead civil design for indoor and open-terminal substations
- Prepare substation layouts, technical specs, and detailed drawings (AutoCAD)
- Produce concept designs and assess engineering options
- Collaborate with engineering teams and manage junior designers where applicable
- Respond to site queries during construction
- Ensure safety, constructability, and compliance in all designs
- Align designs with programme timelines, budgets, and technical standards
- Liaise with third-party providers and attend site meetings
- Continuously improve design documentation and standards
Qualifications & Skills
- HNC in Civil Engineering with 2+ years’ experience in a relevant discipline
- Strong problem-solving and technical design assessment skills
- Experience in transmission voltage plant and substation design (advantageous)
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or willingness to learn quickly
- Full UK driving licence & willingness to travel for site meetings

- Undertake detailing to technical approval submission standards for roads and drainage consents
- Develop detailing and coordination skills to further develop and enhance experience and capabilities

The Candidate
The ideal Civil design Engineer will have
- Minimum HNC/ HND in Civil Engineering, BEng in civil Engineering < i>Experience in Drainage, water supply infrastructure(reservoirs), and water structures(culverts, ponds)
- Construction industry experience
- Capability of using software packages such as Auctocad, Revit and Microdrainage li>Ability to maximise the levels of responsibility taken on projects, small and large li>Communication and numerical skills
