Responsibilities:
- Lead the structural design of bridges, including various types such as beam, arch, suspension, and cable-stayed bridges.
- Develop design concepts, feasibility studies, and preliminary designs, ensuring technical and economic viability.
- Perform complex structural analysis and calculations using advanced Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software.
- Prepare detailed design drawings, specifications, and construction documentation.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant national and international codes and standards (e.g., Eurocodes, DMRB).
- Oversee and review the work of junior engineers and technicians, providing guidance and mentorship.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including geotechnical, highway, and environmental engineers.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources for assigned bridge design tasks.
- Conduct site investigations and condition surveys where necessary, coordinating with site teams.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities to ensure project requirements are met.
- Provide technical support during the construction phase, responding to queries and resolving design issues.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of best practices and innovation in bridge engineering.
- Write technical reports and present design proposals to stakeholders.
- Stay abreast of new materials, technologies, and construction methods in bridge engineering.
- Ensure adherence to quality assurance and quality control procedures throughout the design process.
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering, with a specialization in bridge engineering.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) or equivalent.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in bridge design and analysis.
- Demonstrated expertise in the design of a wide range of bridge types.
- Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., MIDAS Civil, LUSAS Bridge, SAP2000).
- Thorough understanding of Eurocodes and relevant UK highway design standards.
- Experience with BIM (Building Information Modeling) is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to manage projects and lead design teams.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical information clearly.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote setting.
- Experience in seismic design or fatigue analysis is a plus.
- Must be eligible to work in the UK and be able to work from a UK-based remote location.

Our client are an award winning, multi disciplinary design consultancy who are currently looking to recruit a Civil Design Engineer with 5+ years’ experience.
Your role within the company will be to complete Drainage design on a wide number of residential and commercial projects which are based in Ireland.
As the projects are based in Ireland, this role is a remote working position.
ROLE
The civil engineer shall ensure design works are completed as per the Client’s requirements.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- BEng (Level 8) in Civil Engineering or equivalent. li>5+ years’ experience in the design of Civil projects including Roads and Drainage. < i>Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Have a ‘can do ‘attitude and a desire to give an excellent service quality.
- Experience in AutoCAD, Revit, Civils 3D and/or similar or related Civil Engineering design software.
- Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
- Must be eligible to work in the UK.
