We’re working with a very well-known branding agency in Central London, part of a global communications group, to find a Design Director who brings both creative vision and strategic depth. This is an opportunity to lead and inspire a talented team, shaping work for some of the world’s most recognisable consumer brands.
 
In this role you will be both a leader and a creator; guiding the strategic and creative direction of projects while staying close to the craft. About The Role
 
We are seeking an experienced Design Director (Adaptive) on a 12 month Fixed Term Contract basis. This is a hybrid working role based in our London, UK Studio
 
As our Adaptive Packaging Designer, you’ll be responsible for developing packaging systems that seamlessly adapt across product lines, formats, and markets globally. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teamsto deliver packaging that are not only beautiful, but also functional.
 
You will of course be grounded in brand pack design, both creatively and in its expansion and translation across wide reaching portfolios, with strong print and technical knowledge to back this up in execution.
 
As well as thinking conceptually, you’ll be structured in your approach; critical to this role is inherent adaptability and pragmatism as well as strong organisational skills. Working across multiple creative projects in a fast-paced studio environment you will need to prioritise and manage your time effectively and assist driving the creative team through projects, keeping them on track in output and creative quality throughout.
 
 
What you’ll do
 
You’ll lead the team on multiple projects from brief through design, adaptation and roll out and production across a wide variety of packaging design projects
You will report directly to the Creative Director and you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day quality of outputs from, and nurturing of the design team.
You’ll be providing inspirational directions to the more junior members of the team, mentoring and sharing your knowledge and skills
You’ll be able to work efficiently, balancing tight deadlines and frequently shifting priorities
Foster a respectful, open and inspiring work environment within the studio, including a genuine and positive attitude
 
 
What you’ll need
 
- Solid experience in branding, packaging design with focus on adaptation and roll out, digital understanding is a plus
 - Strong understanding or artwork, print and production process
 - A portfolio that represents a diverse range of industry expertise, showing systems thinking in the world of FMCG
 - The ability to be the brand guardian, ensuring it’s development and executional consistency and recognising when to creatively challenge and stretch it as the opportunity arises

At WONGDOODY Europe, our approach to UX is lean and user-centered. We workshop ideas and solutions with clients and internal teams and sketch out ideas.
 
We have a fast-paced, prototype-driven workshop approach called ‘Conversation to Creation’ (C2C) in which you’d play a key role. We run these workshops with startup founders and clients to kick-off new, transformational products and distil in weeks what others would take months for.
 
We don’t stop at concepts and prototypes, we deliver real products to customers and iterate upon them. As a UX Director, you play a key role throughout this process.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee a key project within the studio and ensure quality of work as well as supporting the team and establish ways of working that enable the best work for Wongdoody and our clients.
 - Liaising with senior clients and stakeholders, taking briefs, challenging them when required to add value to client’s business and customer’s experiences
 - Inspire the wider team at Wongdoody with your passion for the craft and knowledge in the industry.
 - Create world-class products and experiences that make people’s lives simply better.
 - Gather business requirements, market research, and user needs, and distil them into actionable insights. Derive hypotheses, communicate them effectively, and test them.
 - Lead your team and the client on a journey of product creation based on these insights.
 - Design and communicate effectively through diagrams, sketches, designs, and prototypes.
 - Work with WONGDOODY Europe’s leadership to help achieve the company’s goals, to improve our ways-of-working and engagements with clients.
 - Conduct qualitative and quantitative user research using a variety of methods, incl. managing a third-party.
 - Lead interdisciplinary teams of 2 to 5 people from initial sketches and prototypes through final design.
 - Inspire and motive an energetic and collaborative team and let them inspire you.
 - Experience managing and mentoring designers, and supporting their growth.
 - Drive yourself and your team to create the best, well-crafted product.
 - Work with the development and QA teams to ensure the product is understood and be part of the creation of the product throughout the process.
 - Pitch work to clients and partners, facilitate workshops with c-suite clients.
 
 
QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of experience working at leading digital teams.
 - Portfolio of complex, digital experiences for global brands across mobile, tablet, and web channels, such as large CMS sites, e-commerce, apps, etc. Highlight your contribution to each project, and what makes the solution you devised innovation and smart.
 - Experience in the public sector and employee experiences is a plus
 - The ability to think at a high level about product strategy and vision (not just 'how it should look' but 'what we should build')
 - Have a bias for action in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environment.
 - Excellent communication skills: being able to explain design rationale, to align and persuade stakeholders, and to drive conversations.
 - A solid understanding of all the other disciplines needed to create a brilliant product, such as business, technology, delivery, marketing, and content.
 - Proficiency in Figma, PPT, Keynote, Sketch, Invision.
 - Experience creating a digital strategy and content strategy, and with the design and execution of user testing and research studies.
 - A sense of humour!

In this newly created multi-disciplinary role, we are seeking a Senior Experience designer to join our Experience Design practice supporting both existing and new client engagements, who is a user centred designer to perform user research, transform the business process into user journeys through service design, and an experienced interaction designer who understands design systems, while designing new services that demonstrate how user needs and business requirements are met.
 
As a Experience Designer:
You are strong in Service and Interaction design, with experience with performing User Research. You will deliver service blueprints, user journeys, flows, lo-fi & hi-fi prototypes, interface design, component designs, design specifications, presentations and design pitches. For this role you are:
- An intellectually curious, creative problem solver focused on design methodology and passionate about inclusive, accessible services for a diverse user population.
 - Developing a deep understanding of user needs and be a champion of the benefits of being user centred, inclusive design and accessibility.
 - Performing discoveries and are comfortable with planning, scoping, conducting, analysing and communicating findings that ground design decisions against user needs.
 - You enjoy collaborative work in a dynamic and creative environment. You are comfortable working with the different technical experts being part of a multidisciplinary team, guiding software engineers as they build your designs.

 - You have experience producing component-based UI or contributed to a design system and can talk to brand values and how best to serve the needs for mobile, tablet and desktop UI, with experience designing products that meet accessibility standards.
 - You have a minimum of 4 years’ experience in a design role at a consumer-focused company, or government body, and a degree in Design, Psychology, Human Computer Interaction, or a related field.
 - You have a portfolio that showcases your design process and thinking.
