Your new role

  • Lead mechanical design strategy and performance across a diverse property portfolio
  • Review and approve technical specifications, ensuring alignment with internal standards and legal obligations
  • Provide expert input on Building Regulations - especially ventilation standards and SFG20 compliance
  • Manage external consultancies: assess outputs, challenge assumptions, and uphold a high technical bar
  • Influence senior stakeholders and external agencies with clarity and confidence
  • Support value engineering initiatives - every pound spent must be justified and rational
  • Collaborate with electrical counterparts and wider design teams to ensure joined-up delivery
  • Represent mechanical engineering at senior forums, with the potential to grow into Head of Engineering

What you'll need to succeed

  • Chartered status or working towards ECUK registration
  • Deep technical knowledge of HVAC, fire, refrigeration, water hygiene, and mechanical systems
  • Mastery of UK Building Regulations and compliance frameworks
  • Experience managing consultancy outputs and working within complex stakeholder environments
  • Resilience, self-sufficiency, and the ability to spin multiple plates
  • Strong communication skills - able to simplify technical issues and influence at all levels
  • A background in consultancy or client-side engineering

This company is based in the Burntwood area of Staffordshire, close to Lichfield, Cannock and Walsall. They are looking for a Design Engineering Manager / Design Manager / Design Office Manager.

As Design Engineering Manager / Design Manager / Design Office Manager you will be supporting and managing a team of around 10 Design Engineers. You will be responsible for the management of the team and also backing them up with more in-depth engineering knowledge! You would also be assisting more junior members of the team with site visits at the beginning of projects, to take measurements and conduct site surveys. Due to all sites having different downtime hours these visits may take place outside of working hours, so may be late or at the weekend.

Engineering change management: Assist in the preparation, tracking, and implementation of engineering change requests and documentation.
Continuous improvement: Contribute to process improvements, cost reduction initiatives, and design optimisation activities.
Issue tracking: Support the management of reported issues, quality initiatives, and corrective actions as directed by the Design Engineering Lead.
Team support: Provide general technical and administrative support to the design engineering team, including meeting preparation, minute-taking, and action tracking.
Requirements of the Design Engineering Support Engineer:
HND/HNC or Bachelors degree in Engineering, Product Design, or equivalent experience.
Experience in a design engineering or technical support role within a manufacturing environment is desirable.
Proficiency with CAD tools & PDM systems (e.g., SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Inventor) is a plus.
Familiarity with Engineering Change Management processes.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with Smartsheets is beneficial.
Knowledge of relevant standards and directives (e.g., CE, UKCA, ISO) is advantageous.

Location: Bedford
Salary: GBP45,000 per year
Hours: Monday - Thursday, 9am - 5.30pm. Fridays, 9am - 3pm.

Bridge Recruitment is helping one of our established clients recruit for an experienced Design Engineering Support Engineer to join their ever-expanding team.
Responsibilities of the Design Engineering Support Engineer:
Design support: Assist in the creation and modification of CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation for new and existing products.
Prototyping and testing: Support prototype builds, testing activities, and data collection to validate and refine product designs.
