VTOL/ Helipad Design Specialist (Aviation)

We are seeking a talented and experienced Helipad/ VTOL Design Specialist to join our growing aviation business. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all helipad and VTOL advisory, planning and design services as well as having a remit to grow our client base in this area. Whilst the focus is on helipads there is also an opportunity to get involved in other areas of airport development projects if you possess these skills. There is also an opportunity to grow WSPs capability in eVTOL and vertiport advisory, planning and design services. The candidate should be fully aware of both existing and developing VTOL and eVTOL regulations.
**A little more about your role.**
+ Design and develop helipad layouts and infrastructure for both surface-level and elevated helipad installations
+ Prepare concept through to detailed design drawings, technical specifications, and reports
+ Lead technical and feasibility studies for VTOL/ eVTOL operational requirements
+ Ensure all designs comply with relevant safety regulations and aviation guidelines including ICAO, FAA and EASA.
+ Lead or contribute to multidisciplinary project teams delivering innovative aviation solutions.
+ Conduct site visits and condition inspections where required
+ Safeguarding of existing VTOL/ helipads and associated infrastructure.
+ Collaborate with architects, engineers, and construction teams to integrate helipad designs into broader project plans where required.
+ Provide technical support and guidance to clients and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
+ Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, best practices, and regulations in helipad design and VTOL/ eVTOL.
+ Develop a strategy for increasing WSP UK's Client base for providing helipad, VTOL/ eVTOL advisory, planning and design services.
+ Represent WSP in relevant industry forums and working groups.
**What we will be looking for you to demonstrate.**
+ Proficiency in CAD software and other design tools is preferred but not essential
+ Strong knowledge of aviation safety regulations and standards
+ Familiarity with VTOL/ eVTOL emerging technologies
+ Strong communication, analytical and stakeholder engagement skills
+ Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
+ Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and provide wider aviation technical guidance where required.
+ Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required
+ A degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Aviation Planning, or a related field is preferred but not essential

Your new role
Organisational Development & Design Specialist - Up to £465 per day, 6 months interim assignment, hybrid, Bristol 1 day, WFH 4 days per week.
This OD & D role is more of the "harder" structural elements than the "softer" aspects of OD such as culture, behaviours, and people.The focus will be on supporting senior leadership with job role and structure design, Trade Union consultation, coordinating job evaluation, and mapping/matching exercises. While we don't anticipate redundancies, there may be changes to current job roles. There will also be opportunities to contribute to the softer aspects, particularly around behaviour change.
As an OD&D Specialist, you will work closely with senior leaders and the OD&D Lead to support implementing operating models and enabling structures that support our strategic ambitions. You'll provide expert guidance on organisational design and change, acting as a critical friend to leadership and ensuring alignment with policy, principles, and employment law.
You'll be instrumental in embedding organisational development enablers and supporting effective employee and trade union consultation throughout the change process.
What you'll need to succeed
The below are essential
- CIPD Level 5 qualification or equivalent/ qualified by experience.
- Proven experience in a strategic OD&D or similar role (e.g., HRBP).
- Demonstrated success in delivering OD strategies that shift culture and enable organisational purpose.
- Strong stakeholder, including Trade Unions, engagement and strategic thinking capabilities.
- Experience in designing operating models and structures to meet evolving business needs.
- Ability to build professional networks and drive innovation.
The below are additional desirable skills, experience and qualifications:
- OD&D experience within a Civil Service or Public Sector setting
- Broader HR experience beyond OD&D.
- Project management experience.

About the Role
This is a Design Governance role which requires industry expert knowledge of mobile infrastructure within design and engineering.
Design Governance responsibilities include:
Each Design Governance role will be allocated to a specific customer or Customers. You will be a key enabler, responsible for managing and negotiating Design guidance and process changes. You will be required to identify and engage with all impacted internal and external Stakeholders ensuring business continuity.
Design Governance are responsible for managing Customer design changes, ensuring they are interpreted correctly, assessing the impact to Cornerstone, ensuring alignment with Customer and Cornerstone commercial and strategic expectations.
You will be expected to manage and own Cornerstones, Customer, Colleagues and Design Partners relationships, ensuring effective communication of key updates to key Stakeholders, whilst promoting desired behaviours. Efficient, high-quality right-first-time outcomes will be a key driver in everything you do.
You will be expected to work with the Design team in parallel with the wider business, such as: Engineering, Design Delivery, Program Lead keeping them informed of change, problems and solutions, as well as influence the performance of a team of Design Delivery Managers.
Additionally, you are expected to Identify, maintain and enhance national design guidance, processes and documentation, as well as create project-specific design guidelines as required by the business, to deliver successful projects. There will be exciting opportunities to contribute to other transformational initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Be responsible for the identification, creation and maintenance of national and project specific design guidance as required by the Business.
- Provide innovative ideas and support the implementation of initiatives to enable the business to work smarter. Such as automation and digital transformation initiatives.
- Be accountable for assessing Customer design guidance and communicating to relevant internal and external Stakeholders.
- Gauge and translate any commercial impact of new initiatives to the business.
- Be responsible for responding to Concessions and Design Queries within SLA.
- Responsible for contributing to the organisation's digital transformation initiatives related to design.
- Identify opportunities for leveraging technology and champion the adoption of digital tools to enhance processes.
- Analyse design delivery and quality data and key performance indicators to identify areas of opportunity.
- Collaborate and influence cross-functional teams, such as; delivery, operations, vendor management, to ensure commercial and strategic alignment.
- Input into the RMSV process, with focus on quality and efficient RMSV meetings and outcomes.
- Execute / adapt established design delivery processes to achieve enhance and support design partners and design delivery managers
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Industry expert within telecommunications.
- Understanding and appreciation of process and other departments across telecoms Design & Engineering
- HND or higher qualification in any one of the following:
- M&E Engineering, Electronic, Civil, Telecommunications, Product development or similar
