In this role you will work on challenging problems and present new ideas to the engineering team suggesting new feature developments for a range of automotive systems. Showcasing your skills with Analogue & Digital Electronics Design, PCB Design and Power Electronics will be a big part of the technical side of the role. Other duties include investigate new opportunities for the company, reverse engineer a product and provide solutions to rectify issues with a product.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced R & D Engineer with both hardware and software knowledge and experience of working with Analogue & Digital Electronic Design, PCB Design and Power Electronics. You will ideally have a degree in electronics or automotive engineering and be commutable to Colchester.

As the Product Development Engineer, you will be expected to work as part of a team to solve complex fluid power related problems, there will be an emphasis on new product development, but also to develop and enhance existing products.In this role, the ideal candidate will be able to collaborate and work as part of an engineering team, youwill also spend a portion of yourtime in a hands on production environment. The ideal product development engineer will also be working with external customers which may sometimes require travel to their location.
Product Design and Development
- Design and development of hydraulic components and systems
- Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using advanced CAD software
- Utilize simulation software such as CFD and FEA
- Design systems that optimize energy consumption and performance
- Work with remote monitoring and associated sensors and hardware
- Understand fluid power application requirements in various markets.
- Assist production in analysing failures to determine root cause and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Develop test procedures and conduct prototype validation testing.
- Work with manufacturing partners and vendors to develop and update production processes and specifications to ensure quality and performance of components.
Candidate
As the ideal product development engineer, your role will be primarily office based (no remote working), you will need to visit/work on the shop floor from time to time, so there is a degree of physical work involved.
You will ideally be degree educated in mechanical engineering, or related, have experience in fluid design or working within fluid power industry and a track record in successful engineering projects.
With all this experience it will be a given that you have the technical and soft skills to be a success in the role.
This is a permanent role where you will be expected to work regular office hours with a lunchtime finish on a Friday ( 36 hours ).

About the role:
To support with new & existing product development and testing, product development and technical sales whilst producing and managing technical files and documentation.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Work with the new product development team to identify new market opportunities and expand current range.
Testing what is required to ensure products are compliant and review third party test reports.

Experience using project management tools.

- Product design experience (Product design involving plastic/rubber/composites and compression, injection or injection transfer moulding experience would be advantageous)
- Experience of working in cross-discipline teams
- Experience of working within a high-volume manufacturing environment, ideally automotive
