We are seeking a Consulting Engineer and technical authority in IEC 61850 and digital substation technologies to lead standards-compliant communication design, configuration, integration strategy, and cross-industry collaboration for next-generation Transmission and Distribution (T&D) systems.
The successful candidate will act as design authority to drive internal implementation and oversee solution design to overcome critical barriers to digital substation adoption, including interoperability gaps, tool fragmentation, legacy integration, and cybersecurity threats.
This role bridges product development, customer deployment, partnerships and industry engagement, ensuring GE Vernova maintains leadership in standards development, substation digitalization, and interoperability.
**Job Description**
**Key Responsibilities**
+ Own the strategy, lifecycle, and interoperability of System Configuration Tools (SCT) and IED Configuration Tools (ICT), including workflows for SCL file management (ICD, SCD, CID), round-tripping, version control, and compliance with IEC 61850 Editions 2.1/2.2 in multi-vendor, multi-tool environments.
+ Develop and lead the technical strategy for digital substation adoption, addressing industry challenges such as inconsistent IEC 61850 implementation, fragmented tools, and multi-vendor integration across SCL configurations, GOOSE/SV messaging, and secure networking.
+ Define integration solutions for IEC 61850 with legacy and hybrid environments, mitigate cybersecurity risks in IP-based architectures, and ensure long-term maintainability and validation across the utility asset lifecycle.
+ Promote scalable, secure, vendor-agnostic deployments of IEC 61850 through technical strategy, validation methods, and reusable frameworks.
+ Lead GE Vernova's engagement with IEC 61850 working groups, UCAIug, and utility standards bodies; contribute to technical proposals, test procedures, and profile management.
+ Translate evolving standards into internal roadmaps and customer guidance.
+ Define protocol architecture and integration strategies for IEC 61850 (GOOSE, MMS, SV) and IEC 60870-5 (101/103/104), DNP3, Modbus, ensuring security and reliability.
+ Guide engineering of secure, time-synchronized, and redundant LANs, including PRP/HSR, VLAN, and IEEE 1588 PTP.
+ Support the conversion of system-level requirements into detailed specifications, validation plans, and design best practices.
+ Support utility and OEM clients in interoperability testing, issue resolution, and IEC 61850 configuration validation.
+ Consult on communication design, protocol migrations, and SCL file flows.
+ Lead training, workshops, and knowledge transfer for digital substation design, commissioning, and cybersecurity hardening.
+ Publish and present best practices at industry events such as CIGRÉ, IEEE PSRC, and IEC TC57.
+ Mentor engineering teams on model-driven design, protocol stack development, and substation cybersecurity.

**Required Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's degree in electrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering
+ Minimum of 8 years of experience in substation automation, utility communications, or protection & control systems

What will you be doing?

My client is looking for a Digital transformation Consultant with NHS consultancy experiance
This role will play a pivotal part in managing and delivering digital transformation projects, responsible for ensuring the smooth execution of projects by meeting our clients' objectives while working as part of an integrated team. Leading on day-to-day project activities, ensuring timely delivery, within budget and to the high quality expected by our clients. This role will also be instrumental in transferring knowledge to our clients to ensure they can sustain and build upon the technological advantages implemented during the project.
Project Management & Delivery:
- Manage the full lifecycle of digital transformation projects, ensuring effective planning, execution and delivery of agreed outputs.
- Oversee project timelines, budgets and resources, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to the expected quality standards.
- Proactively identify project risks, challenges and dependencies, and develop mitigation plans to keep projects on track.
Stakeholder Management:
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with key client stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and collaboration throughout the project.
- Ensure that client expectations are clearly understood and managed, with regular updates on project progress, risks and changes.
- Facilitate regular project meetings with internal teams and client stakeholders to track progress, resolve issues and ensure alignment.
- Ensure that knowledge transfer is built into the project delivery plan, enabling clients to take ownership of their digital transformation once the project is complete.
- Lead client workshops, training sessions and documentation efforts to ensure clients understand and are capable of sustaining the changes implemented.
- Assist clients in establishing governance structures and processes that support the ongoing management of digital transformation efforts.
Skills & Characteristics
Project Management Experience:
- 1-3 years of experience managing and delivering digital transformation projects, preferably within the healthcare sector.
- Experience with project management methodologies such as Agile, Waterfall or Hybrid, and the ability to adapt these methodologies to the needs of each project.
Healthcare Knowledge:
- Good understanding of the NHS/Healthcare industry, including healthcare IT systems (e.g., Electronic Patient Record (EPR), telemedicine, healthcare analytics) and relevant regulations (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR).
- Familiarity with the challenges and opportunities associated with digital transformation in healthcare organisations.

What will you be doing?
As the Digital Transformation Manager for our Southwark Municipal Collections site, you will spearhead digital operations and enhancements. You will leverage data and collaborate with operational teams to identify digital change opportunities, develop solutions and manage delivery. You will act as the primary face between our Digital, Business, and Technology (DB&T) department and front line operational teams, facilitating digital system transitions and fostering local digital advancements.

Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with the onsite management team to elevate the quality and application of data, ensuring adherence to and exceeding operational and client requirements.
- Assume responsibility for operational data, maintaining its accuracy and currency to the highest standards.
- Take ownership of and use digital solutions to re-engineer back-office processes to ensure their ongoing relevance, accuracy, and efficiency through continuous review and improvement.
- Develop in-depth knowledge of our Service Management Software (Echo) to become the site's primary expert.
- Lead and execute projects to implement changes in processes and workflows.
- Drive service digitisation by developing and implementing cutting-edge technological advancements.

- Contribute to the execution of our digital training strategy and provide operational end-user training.
What are we looking for?
- Degree level qualification in Science, Business, Information Systems, Environmental Sciences OR Geographical Information Science
- Able to work independently.
- Proven experience in operational or analytical management supporting business change.
- You will have a high problem solving ability.
- Confident communicator with strong relationship management skills, able to simplify complex data analysis for end-user consumption.
- Strong project management skills are essential, including defining scope, planning, managing timelines and budgets, risk mitigation, and ensuring on-time, quality project delivery within constraints.
- Demonstrate strong organisational skills to handle concurrent tasks.
- Ability to manage workload efficiently, addressing various issues promptly.
- Proficient in data analytics and manipulation
- Desirable: PowerBI, SQL, DataBricks, ArcGIS, ArcOnline, Excel, Google Sheets, AppSheets, ProntoForms, Jira, Lucid.
