We are seeking to recruit at Associate Director level to lead our transport planning team in Birmingham.
**YOUR NEW ROLE, WHATS INVOLVED?**
You will have the opportunity to leading our transport planning team, working our senior leadership team, to develop and grow the team, whilst delivering for our clients. Client liaison, assisting in preparing fee proposals, developing business through your network (as we help you to grow this) and work winning duties are therefore a key part of the role.
Each day will present different challenges and opportunities, from supporting your team and colleagues through their goals and professional development, to finding solutions to unlock developments for our clients. Your role will be varied, sometimes leading the projects taking responsibility for day-to-day project management and project leadership, and other times working with colleagues to provide multi-disciplinary advice across the development process, from early concept development, leading to planning applications or stakeholder negotiations to help secure deliverable and sustainable planning consents.
You can expect to be active on a number of projects/client accounts at any given time. You will be supported by a team of experienced technical staff of various grades.
We will expect you to ensure your projects are delivered to budget, programme and technical standards and meet QA, CDM and HSE requirements.
**WE'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE**
+ Substantial post graduate (or equivalent) experience and either have been awarded Chartered status (Such as TPP, CEng, MIHT) or have equivalent commercial experience and responsibility. You should be able to demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of and experience in transport planning as well as a wide knowledge of the Development Industry.
+ The ability to produce technical reports for a variety of stakeholders, site appraisals and write the relevant sections of environmental statements. You will have a good knowledge of the relevant design guidance such as DMRB and Local Authority Design Guides, LTN 1/20 and Manual for Streets.
+ Good written and spoken communication skills and be aware of current and emerging technical and planning guidance on climate change and sustainability. You will be able to direct and check the use of relevant software, ideally including standalone junction capacity software such as Junctions 10 and LinSig.
+ An approach to vision led planning, responding to current and future climate, transport and sustainability challenges faced by the development industry.
+ A consultancy background with a bias towards private sector work, but with an understanding of public sector requirements.

**A little more about your role.**
Specifically supporting the Development team, who provide transport planning, civil infrastructure and urban design support on development and masterplanning projects, the appointment will play a key role in the team's growth aspirations in and around Leeds and nationally. We are looking to recruit a Technical Director/Director with a development transport planning background who should already be embedded within the local and regional market and will have a focus on client facing activities, business growth, market strategy and technical leadership and will play an integral part in supporting the initiative to diversify our team, in terms of both staff numbers and revenue.
The successful candidate will be proven at winning and delivering new work within a multi-disciplinary consultancy environment with experience across both the public and private sectors. A sector specialism would be an added advantage (though not essential). They will also be experienced at managing large multi-disciplinary tender proposals and will be responsible for identifying opportunities for new work with existing and new clients, existing sector leads within the team and colleagues across the wider WSP business.
Key aspects of the role include:
+ Identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, leveraging a network of clients, co-professionals and colleagues to help win work and increase market share for the Development team.
+ Liaising with the Regional Director for Development South and local office lead in setting and agreeing appropriate growth targets and plans.

We are looking to recruit a Technical Director/Director with a development transport planning background who should already be embedded within the local and regional market and will have a focus on client facing activities, business growth, market strategy and technical leadership and will play an integral part in supporting the initiative to diversify our team, in terms of both staff numbers and revenue.
The successful candidate will be proven at winning and delivering new work within a multi-disciplinary consultancy environment with experience across both the public and private sectors. A sector specialism would be an added advantage (though not essential). They will also be experienced at managing large multi-disciplinary tender proposals and will be responsible for identifying opportunities for new work with existing and new clients, existing sector leads within the team and colleagues across the wider WSP business.
Key aspects of the role include:
+ Identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, leveraging a network of clients, co-professionals and colleagues to help win work and increase market share for the Development team.
+ Liaising with the Regional Director for Development South and local office lead in setting and agreeing appropriate growth targets and plans.
+ Liaising with public / private sector clients and key stakeholders, such as local planning authorities, to build trusted relationships
+ Providing technical advice to clients and supporting them through the planning and design process.
