We are currently recruiting for a Editorial Assistant to start immediately for 5 months to join the Strategic Communications department in the College.
Part time -4 Days a Week 28 hours
Ideally in the office on a Tuesday and a Wednesday
The role is Hybrid- 2 days in the office and 2 days from home and working on a full-time basis and is paying a competitive 29,768 - £32,646 £8.73 - 0.54 an hour depending experience
WHO WILL YOU BE WORKING FOR?
Our client is an established non-profit healthcare membership body.
WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?
- To organise, attend, take notes at the Publications Management Board, journal Editorial Boards, and general meetings held by the Publishing Team. Circulate notes and actions in a timely manner and in accordance with College policy.
- To manage and maintain Editorial Board records, recruitment and training, and engagement, including training of the online submission system and coordinating regular newsletters and updates to the boards.
- To process book royalty payments for the College’s books backlist
- To support Managing Editors with processing of journal content, including extras, book reviews, and obituaries
- To provide support in finalising digital content for the journals and books, e.g. checking transcripts and captions for podcasts and videos
- To support with posting about new journal content on social media.
- To support and attend activities of the Publishing Team at conferences and events
- Experience of liaising with partners and stakeholders to deliver agreed plans and objectives
- Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills
- Experience using an online manuscript processing system
- Experience in STM publishing
- Familiarity with academic content and papers
- Familiarity with design software, e.g. Adobe Creative Cloud

Job Purpose:
- Assisting the Special Projects editor with the daily demands of Decanter Commercial content
- Helping to run the Commercial content for Decanter, both in print and digital
- Working as a team to help ensure all sponsored, advertorial and otherwise paid-for content is on time, on brief and in line with Decanter editorial copy standards and client demands
- Regular liaison with producers from around the world but primarily Spain, France and Italy
- Accurate sub-editing of commercial copy
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting the Special Projects Editor with the daily demands of Commercial content
- Day-to-day contact with Decanter sales team and wider Decanter team, designers and producers: liaising on briefs and deadlines
- Coordination of commercial content for daily, regional and weekend newsletters
- Possible travel for Commercial projects (such as tastings and trade fairs)
Experience that will put you ahead of the curve:
- Native-level proficiency of English
- Confident spoken and written command of another European language: preferably Spanish, French or Italian
- Efficient and polite communication style across email, phone and project management systems (monday.com , Slack, Google Workspace)
- Sub-editing and writing experience (journalism degree a bonus); Commercial content experience desirable
- CMS experience and possible SEO experience (or quick to learn new systems and processes)
- Minimum Level 2 WSET or equivalent wine knowledge
- Excellent organisation and project management skills; follows instructions carefully
- Working knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop (or quick to learn)
- Outgoing, personable, a team player, a can-do attitude and a problem-solver (no two days are the same!)
- Works calmly under pressure, juggling multiple deadlines, clients and projects at once; able to cope with monthly print deadlines and demanding client edits
- Flexible time schedule to accommodate deadlines

Who What Wear UK is looking to hire an Editorial Assistant to work alongside the editorial team to support in content production. You will be a burgeoning writer with a solid understanding of what makes a story up-to-date and relevant, a sharp eye for detail and impeccable taste in fashion and beauty product selections. This new role will help the editorial teams to reach their traffic and ecommerce goals by responding to a fast-paced and ever-changing schedule of content refreshes and other turnkey actions such as shopping edits and localising content from our US sister site.
What you'll be doing.
- Report into the Managing Editor, and working closely with the Deputy Editor, you will complete weekly and daily tasks to update and strengthen existing SEO and top-performing content.
- Collaborate with the social and ecommerce teams to support any additional content refreshes that are required for distribution.
- Produce new and data-responsive content for editorial and commercial as and when required.
- Support the Fashion Editor on sample call-ins, returns and shoot day assistance.
- Assist the editorial team on fashion month scheduling and press-day calendar planning.
Experience that will put you ahead of the curve.
- Experience in producing content whether through own channels or academic studies. Relevant knowledge of fashion and beauty is preferred.
- Proficiency in British English style, punctuation and grammar.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
- CMS/HTML experience is highly preferred.
