Role: HLTA Outdoor Education

Core Purpose:
To plan and deliver outdoor and active learning to groups of no more than 8 KS4 students off site from the main school site to support the overall delivery of a vocational curriculum
To contribute to the smooth running of the centre, undertaking other reasonable tasks such as break and lunchtime supervision, providing occasional cover for teachers as needed
Key responsibilities include:
Plan as and deliver appropriate learning to support student's academic and SEMH needs through engagement with the outdoor environment
Provide appropriate support to students to help them consistently meet our ready, respectful, safe expectations
Assist with other activities related to the supervision of students such as break/lunch supervision, in-class support, cover.
Key duties:
Support for students:
Deliver learning for individual and groups of students as agreed
Accurately record assessment and progress data to provide information to students and parents/carers
Provide information to support school Plans, Pupil Passports or EHC applications/reviews
Establish positive working relationships with students modelling the School expectations of ready, respectful, safe
Helping students to manage their in a relational, trauma informed way, in line with the school's Relationships & Behaviour Policy, supporting de-escalation as needed
Schoolwide support:
To uphold the whole school ethos by ensuring all staff and pupils understand and adopt the school vision and values.
Providing relevant break, lunchtime, off site supervision and cover for teachers as required
Demonstrate positive attitudes, values and behaviours to develop and sustain effective relationships with the school community
Respect individual differences and cultural diversity
Promote the welfare of children and young people and at all times ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are followed.
Person Specification
Essential:
Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy qualification
Significant experience of working with children and young people with complex needs
Ability to work independently in a range of settings and at times unsupervised.
Ability to relate well to both children and adults, with ability to work effectively within a team
Ability to remain calm and empathetic under pressure or when supporting behaviours that challenge
Good organisation and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in an inclusive and non-judgemental way.
Understanding of SEND and other barriers to learning that young people may face
Good understanding and use of technology e.g. internet, email, Microsoft office
Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding procedures and processes Ability and willingness to drive students
Desirable:
A relevant, recognised qualification e.g. Diploma in Childcare, NVQ Level 3 for Teaching Assistants, HLTA qualification
Experience of delivering outdoor learning or learning outside of the a 'typical' classroom
Knowledge and understanding of the SEND Code of Practice
Knowledge of appropriate interventions or strategies to support student's SEMH needs
Other relevant training e.g. Team Teach, first aid
Ability and willingness to drive a minibus

The Foundation provides free educational resources and workshops to schools to give students a glimpse into the exciting world of engineering. The Foundation also supports university students through the James Dyson Award, an international design competition. Purpose of the position:
We’re looking for an Education and Outreach Specialist to join the James Dyson Foundation; someone who is motivated to work to inspire the next generation of engineers through hands-on outreach strategies. They will need to equip themselves with the skills to engage and motivate young people and educators across the UK.
The James Dyson Foundation Education and Outreach Specialist will focus on the following areas:
- Manage and implement the James Dyson Foundation’s presence at key STEM events throughout the year, including sourcing and managing equipment, completing risk assessments and sourcing volunteers.
- Seek opportunities for the Foundation to share key information about their work and educational resource and workshop offerings with established and training teachers through hands-on sessions.
- Lead on the continued implementation of the Foundation’s educational resource offerings globally, creating frameworks to track the success of each resource.
- Work closely with key stakeholders to manage the Foundation’s ongoing relationships and support with relevant events or funding opportunities.
Job purpose:
STEM outreach
- Manage the Foundation’s attendance at STEM events across the Southwest of the UK.
- Implement the Foundation’s in-school workshops across the Southwest of the UK.
- Engage Dyson and Weybourne people to volunteer at events and workshops.
- Manage the Foundation’s educational resources – overseeing the existing resource offering in the UK and working with the global team to deliver global resources.
- Create frameworks to track the success of the Foundation’s outreach and resources.
- Identify ways to develop existing resources and opportunities for new resources.
- Deliver relevant teacher training sessions across the UK
- Manage relationships with key STEM partners
- Manage the Foundation’s bursary programmes
Knowledge and interest in engineering education
- Develop an expansive knowledge of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) education in the UK.
- Develop a network of contacts in engineering education.
Administrative duties
- Support with the charity’s administration tasks for the Foundation including writing correspondence and supporting with payments and donations.
- Manage Payroll giving.
- Manage all administrative tasks associated with delivering events, workshops and resources for the Foundation, including completing risk assessments.
Requirements
Experience and education:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Experience in an education role (e.g., teaching, work or volunteering for education non-profit organisation).
Skills and competencies:
- Strong verbal communication skills – ability to present ideas in an engaging and inspiring way.
- Strong written communication skills
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- Strong time management skills needed to balance multiple projects and administrative duties.
- Experience managing people or volunteers preferred but not essential
- An understanding of the education system in the UK.
- Computer literacy – Outlook, Excel and Word
- A strong interest in engineering education.
- A strong interest in the James Dyson Foundation’s mission.
- Creative, in ideas and writing.
