Education Officer – Prevention
 

This is an exciting opportunity to join a national homelessness charity to lead the delivery of our homelessness prevention education programme in the North West as our Education Officer – Prevention.

Position: Education Officer – Prevention
Location: Based in our Manchester office, with frequent travel across the North West
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £29,242 per annum plus pension and other benefits

About the Role

As Education Officer, you will coordinate and deliver the Education Programme across schools, colleges, and youth settings in the North West. The programme aims to prevent youth homelessness through engaging workshops, assemblies, and group sessions that explore topics such as healthy relationships, conflict management and homelessness awareness.

Working closely with the National Education Programme Manager, you will also support the development of new resources and manage relationships with partner institutions. You will be responsible for marketing the programme, delivering high-impact sessions, and generating income through partnerships with educational settings.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic team working at the forefront of youth homelessness prevention.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the delivery of education workshops and assemblies to young people aged 11–18
  • li>Designing high-quality, engaging resources aligned with national curriculum and tailored to local needs
  • Building strong partnerships with schools and colleges to promote and deliver the programme
  • Recording and evaluating delivery to ensure effectiveness and continual improvement
  • Training and supporting volunteers, including young people with lived experience
  • Representing the charity at regional and national events
  • Occasionally delivering sessions or attending meetings out-of-hours, with time off in lieu provided

About You

You will need to have the following skills and experience:

  • Excellent communication skills and confidence delivering to large groups
  • Experience working with children and young people, especially on sensitive issues
  • Ability to build strong professional relationships with education staff and stakeholders
  • Proven experience in designing educational content and facilitating interactive sessions
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach and ability to work independently
  • Good knowledge of safeguarding procedures and ability to apply them
  • Competence in digital tools and content creation

This is a truly unique opportunity for an unqualified teacher or experienced instructor to lead engaging and dynamic learning experiences across various beautiful locations. Your classroom will be a purpose-built 7-meter motor-home, which you will be responsible for driving and maintaining.

You will play a crucial role in bringing educational projects to life, teaching students about a range of subjects, from environmental science and bushcraft to geography and history, all in an outdoor setting.



Key Responsibilities

  • Drive a 7-meter motor-home safely and confidently to different educational sites.

  • Plan and deliver engaging, hands-on outdoor education lessons to small groups of students (ages (e.g., 8-16)).

  • Manage the mobile classroom, including basic maintenance and ensuring it is clean and well-stocked.

  • Ensure the safeguarding and well-being of all pupils at all times, adhering to all company policies.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Requirements:

  • A full, clean UK driving license with the C1 endorsement , which is required to drive vehicles over 3.5 tonnes (up to 7.5 tonnes).

  • Proven experience in outdoor education, youth work, or a similar instructional role.

  • A strong knowledge of child safety and a positive, can-do attitude.

Desirable Qualifications:

The Role: Outdoor Education Teacher (Unqualified)

  • Significant experience in delivering outdoor education or similar practical/experiential learning programs. This could include roles in forest schools, outdoor activity centres, youth work, or similar.

  • Strong practical skills relevant to outdoor education (e.g., bushcraft, navigation, gardening, basic tool use).

  • A genuine passion for working with young people who may have faced challenges in mainstream education.

  • An understanding of safeguarding principles and a commitment to ensuring the welfare of all students.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team-working skills.

  • Patience, resilience, adaptability, and a proactive approach to challenges.

  • Relevant outdoor qualifications (e.g., Forest School Leader, Mountain Leader, First Aid) are highly desirable.

  • Experience working with students with SEN, SEMH (Social, Emotional, Mental Health) needs, or challenging behaviours is a significant advantage.

  • An Enhanced DBS check will be required upon appointment.
