Overview:
We are currently working with a well established high voltage electrical engineering company, who specialise in electrical power infrastructure, grid connections and renewable energy generation.
With the increase in success and growth they are seeking experienced Electrical Designers to join their team.
The Electrical Design role is diverse, challenging and rewarding, and you will be given the opportunity to practice and develop a wide range of skills including specification of HV primary equipment, design of protection and control schemes, reviewing and conducting simulation and modelling studies to demonstrate compliance.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the delivery of designs within agreed timeframes, to a high quality that reflects companies reputation as high voltage specialists
- Work across multiple design projects and prioritise conflicting project deadlines
- Communicate effectively with clients, consultants, and project engineers, to understand their expectations and justify your design decisions
- Provide technical support for the project engineers for design queries
- Build relationships with clients, and attend design and project co-ordination meetings with clients, their consultants, and DNO and TNO representatives
- Ensure all designs are designed for safety and are compliant with CDM and Health and Safety regulations, including producing design risk assessments, and effectively communicating risks to project engineers and construction operatives
- Prepare design packages for DNO contestable works and balance of plant (private) works from 11 kV to 132 kV
- Work closely with the in-house CAD drafting team to generate SLD’s, equipment layouts, cable route drawings, construction, and legal plans for new HV connections
- Produce AC/DC schematics for protection, control, and SCADA panels, and liaise with our in-house panel assemblers on the construction of panels
- Select HV and LV cables and design cable routes using CYMCAP and Amtech software
- Prepare multicore cable schedules
- Manage and review simulation studies for generation connections undertaken by other consultants or carried out in-house, including load flow, reactive power capability, fault level analysis, power quality, and harmonic studies to demonstrate compliance with Engineering Recommendations, the Distribution Code, the Grid Code, and industry standards
- Attend sites for inspection and design purposes and attend manufacturers factory acceptance tests when required
- Project a professional image to clients and colleagues

Here’s what you need to be successful in the role:
- Gained relevant experience of high voltage electrical engineering design (11 kV and above) within the electrical contracting or utility industries. You will possess excellent technical knowledge and be able to apply this in a practical way
- HNC/ Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Full UK driving licence
- Have obtained or be working towards professional registration with the IET at IENG / CENG level
- Strong report writing skills and the ability to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner
- Open to change, resilient and proactive
- Must be available to travel on work related business throughout the UK with occasional overnight stays
- Right to Work within the UK without limitation

The Role:
We are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to support the team with their Electrical expertise. As the Primary Electrical expert, you will be reporting directly to the Engineering Manager. You will play a critical role in advising on electrical drawings, creating new electrical schematics, and updating outdated designs. You will also be involved in hands-on testing, creating test reports, and ensuring compliance with design standards.
Your Responsibilities will include:
- Advising on electrical drawings and redesigning product ranges
- 50% Electrical design, 20% electrical testing and 30% electrical documentation/administration

The Role

The Role
Reporting to the Design Manager, you will be an integral member of the Design Team; responsible for the design of bespoke control systems for a global OEM specialising in industrial combustion plant. The role will see you using AutoCAD Electrical to generate electrical schematics, layout drawings and cable schedules for bespoke industrial control panels, as well as compiling bill of materials, parts lists and other project-specific electrical documentation.
Whilst the position is office-based, you will still have plenty of opportunities to get hands on; undertaking functional testing and verification of control panels, supporting Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) as well as occasional site visits to attend design meetings, conduct surveys, and assist the Field Service Team with fault finding and complex commissioning projects.
For candidates with an interest in automation or functional safety, there may also be opportunities to support PLC and HMI software development, hazard studies, and functional safety assessments (BS EN 61508 and BS EN 61511) within this role.
The Candidate
The successful candidate is likely to be qualified to HNC or HND level in a relevant electrical/electronic engineering discipline, familiar with electrical circuit theory and control panel design, experienced using CAD software, and familiar with relevant UK electrical legislation (BS 7671, BS EN 60204, etc.).
