What's the Job About?
We are seeking an experienced Electrical CAD Designer to join our Drawing Office team, producing accurate and compliant engineering documentation for multidisciplinary projects in line with BPA standards and industry best practices.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Create detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams and panel layouts. This includes LV and HV single-line diagrams, starter circuits for various pump types, cable block diagrams, cable schedules, cable routing layouts, and termination schedules.
- Design power distribution, lighting systems, control panels and circuit layouts using AutoCAD.
- Review and interpret drawing requirements from Project Engineers to align with project objectives.
- Create preliminary sketches, flow sheets, layouts, material take-offs, schedules, and detailed drawings with supporting documentation.
- Verify design criteria and prepare detailed, accurate designs including sizing requirements and essential information for drawings.
- Conduct site visits, take precise measurements, and perform surveys to support design accuracy.
- Estimate working hours for drawing production and manage time effectively to stay within project budgets.
- Maintain and update Site Master drawings post-project, ensuring accurate records of site surveys.
- Deliver finished designs in line with industry standards, latest electrical design codes, and best practice.
- Critically review engineers’ designs, applying expertise and safety considerations to optimize solutions.
What You’ll Need:
- Demonstrated experience preparing accurate electrical drawings and design documentation, ideally for oil, gas, or related industries such as water, nuclear.
- Proven ability to produce:
- LV and HV single-line diagrams
- Starter circuits for different pump types
- Cable block diagrams and cable schedules
- Cable routing and termination schedules
- Designs compliant with the latest electrical design codes and standards (e.g., BS7671, IEC standards)
- Skilled in CAD software, ideally AutoCAD, Vault, 3D Plant, and Point Cloud, to produce high-quality technical drawings.
- Confident user of MS Word and Excel to support project documentation and reporting.
- Knowledgeable in site surveying, data collection techniques, and comfortable working with Ordnance Survey maps.
- Full, valid UK driving licence for site visits and project travel.
Salary - £36,000-£42,000

Certain Advantage are recruiting on behalf of our established Engineering client for a number of EC&I Designers on a contract basis to support important Nuclear projects in the UK.
They require EC&I Designers to engage with the Integrated Design, facility and project teams and collaborate throughout the project lifecycle in all phases, offering their expertise in EC&I design e.g. electrical services design and CE&I instrumentation & Security systems design.
Working in a team environment means we need strong communicators who can be effective team players.
We need Designers who can offer strong proficiency in AutoCad and CE&I project delivery with experience covering
- Building electrical services design (lighting, small power)
- Instrumentation and Security Systems design
- CDM and IET wiring regulations
- Space management and cable routing
Qualifications
Suitable candidates are expected to hold a minimum ONC in a relevant discipline
