Electrical Systems Design Engineer – Temp to Perm

- Hours: Mon–Thurs 08:30–17:15, Fri 08:30–16:00 (Possible 2 days from home)
- Contract Length: 3 months temp-to-perm

We are looking for a proactive and motivated Electrical Systems Design Engineer to join our client on a temp-to-perm basis. This is an excellent opportunity to step into a full-time engineering role with strong long-term career potential.
The Role
You’ll be involved in the full cycle of control system design, from developing solutions and producing detailed electrical drawings to specifying, sourcing, and scheduling equipment. Working closely with project engineering colleagues, you’ll contribute to delivering innovative automation and control solutions across a variety of projects.
Responsibilities
- Designing control system solutions including PLCs, networks, SCADA/HMI, and telemetry systems
- Creating and configuring design documentation, network architecture diagrams, electrical schematics, and general arrangements
- Assisting in the production of FDS and SDS specifications
- Selecting, identifying, and procuring electrical equipment and instrumentation
- Undertaking and managing site surveys
About You
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent industry experience
- Skilled in electrical design tools such as EPlan or AutoCAD
- Knowledge of automation, control systems, and control panel design/manufacture
- Full UK driving licence
- Eligible to work in the UK

We have four offices nationally with our Head office in Yateley, Hampshire. We are currently seeking an Electrical Systems Design Engineer to join our dynamic team of highly skilled Engineers based at our Yateley site.
The Electrical Systems Design Engineer will be responsible for developing control system solutions, delivery of electrical drawings, identification and procurement scheduling of equipment / components. This role will be working alongside other control system project engineering staff.
The ideal candidate should have relevant qualifications such as an engineering degree or equivalent, experience in electrical design using EPlan, AutoCAD or equivalent and knowledge of automation and control system design.
Working Monday to Friday 8.30am – 5.15pm and 4pm on Fridays, you will receive a salary of up to£60k plus full benefit package which includes; 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (raises to 30 days after 5 years of service), Private Health Scheme (after 1 year service), Death in Service Plan (after 5 years’ service), pension and free onsite parking to name a few.
The role of Electrical Systems Design Engineer will involve the following:
- Design of control system solutions including PLC’s, networks, SCADA/HMI and telemetry systems.
- Authoring and configuring system design documentation, network architecture drawings, electrical drawings and general arrangements.
- Aiding in the production of detailed design specifications including Functional Design Specifications (FDS) and System Design Specifications (SDS).
- Identification and procurement scheduling of electrical equipment and instrumentation
- Managing and completing site surveys
For the Electrical Systems Design Engineer role you will need to have experience in electrical design, knowledge of automation and control system design and knowledge of control panel design and manufacture ideally with a relevant qualification. A full clean driving license is also required.

Main Purpose of Job
A leading organisation in the maritime and defence engineering industry is seeking a System Design Engineer to support multidisciplinary project teams by producing high-quality electrical and mechanical design documentation.
The role focuses on ensuring compliance, functionality, and manufacturability across complex systems in demanding environments.
Key Tasks
- Deliver high-quality 2D and 3D engineering drawings to ISO and BS888:2017 standards.
- Interpret engineering briefs and turn rough mechanical concepts into refined, production-ready design outputs.
- Develop electrical system designs in line with BS7671 (18th edition), EMC and LVD directives, and the Electricity at Work Act.
- Use a CAD tool of choice (AutoCAD preferred; SEE Electrical or ETAP advantageous) to create technical documentation.
- Collaborate across engineering and project teams to align designs with project objectives.
- Create STEP files for customer/client handover as required.
- Support documentation such as Visio diagrams, equipment guidance, and change control artefacts.
- Apply knowledge of enclosure design for control panels and 19” rack assemblies.
- Ensure all work meets relevant safety and compliance standards.
- Provide input into CAD tool selection and process improvement.
Experience / Skills / Qualifications
- HND/HNC, apprenticeship, or equivalent in Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering
- Minimum 4 years’ experience producing electronic and mechanical design outputs at a significant volume
- Familiarity with technical compliance in the regulated electrical engineering environment
- Proficient in CAD (AutoCAD essential; SEE Electrical or ETAP desirable)
- Demonstrated ability to apply first-principle engineering thinking
- Strong problem-solving, time management, and communication skills
- Capable of delivering under pressure and managing shifting priorities
- Must hold or be eligible to achieve SC Security Clearance
- Skilled in standard office and project tools (Excel, Word, Visio, etc.)
