As a Senior Electrical Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for carrying out planned preventative maintenance, diagnosing and rectifying electrical faults, and undertaking installations and upgrades. You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with all relevant electrical safety standards and regulations. This position requires a proactive approach to maintenance, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team. You will also be expected to mentor junior technicians and contribute to the continuous improvement of maintenance procedures.
Key responsibilities include:
- Performing routine inspections, testing, and maintenance of electrical installations, equipment, and systems.
- Diagnosing electrical faults and carrying out repairs to minimize downtime.
- Undertaking new electrical installations, modifications, and upgrades in accordance with specifications and safety standards.
- Ensuring all work complies with BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations) and other relevant safety legislation.
- Reading and interpreting electrical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Responding promptly to emergency maintenance calls.
- Keeping accurate records of all maintenance activities, including fault logging and completion reports.
- Managing the inventory of spare parts and electrical supplies.
- Providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior maintenance staff.
- Contributing to the development and implementation of preventative maintenance programs.
The ideal candidate will possess a recognized qualification in electrical installation or maintenance (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds 2365 or equivalent). You must hold a valid 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations certificate and ideally have experience with PAT testing (e.g., City & Guilds 2377). A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, with a proven track record in fault diagnosis and repair, is essential. Experience with building management systems (BMS) or industrial control systems would be advantageous. Strong problem-solving skills, good communication abilities, and a commitment to health and safety are paramount. This role requires flexibility to undertake occasional out-of-hours work if required.
