The Role
The firm is seeking a Senior Associate or Partner-level Employment Lawyer to play a leading role in its Nottingham office. This is a strategic hire, offering the chance to manage and grow a high-quality employment practice, act for a broad mix of clients, and contribute to the firm’s continued success.
Key Responsibilities
- Advising employers and senior executives on all aspects of employment law
- Handling complex contentious cases, including discrimination, whistleblowing and tribunal claims
- Drafting and negotiating service agreements, policies, contracts and settlement agreements
- Advising on restructures, TUPE, redundancies and senior exits
- Delivering training and seminars to clients on HR and employment issues
- Driving business development, strengthening existing relationships and building new ones
- Supervising and mentoring junior lawyers and supporting team development

The role
This is a blended consultancy role, providing HR advice as well as hands on support to our clients and would be perfect for someone who loves to do both!

The role consists of:
- You will work with our client to provide end to end telephone support for all their employee relation needs meaning you will be a contact for help with a wide range of HR and employment law subjects, such as disciplinary and grievance, TUPE and redundancy. This will include identifying and evaluating risk/claims enabling our clients to make an informed decision on how they wish to run their business.
- You will provide ad hoc support in the form of proactive and reactive services, which includes HR training, facilitating meetings such as disciplinary and grievance hearings or potentially exit negotiations on behalf of your client. AD HOC
- Essentially, giving the clients the support, they need to keep their business compliant in the everchanging world of employment law!
The person:
- Experience providing employment legal advice within private practice or Consultancy, or a minimum of 3-4 years operating in an internal HR role
- Experience in providing advice on complex and varied HR and employment law issues
- Experience in independently and impartially conducting meetings with employees
- Be passionate about helping and supporting clients to achieve the needs of their business
- Tact, diplomacy, an eye for detail and excellent oral and written communication skills are essential
- Be self-motivated and able to work with autonomy
- Actively committed to self-development

Position Overview:
The VP, Employment Law will provide employment law advice to NBCUniversal's businesses in the UK, EMEA & APAC predominantly working with the Universal Destinations & Experiences and Corporate businesses. This role will be primarily based out of our London office, with regular travel to Bedford required.
Responsibilities:
+ Provide expert legal advice to HR, managers (including business leaders) and other internal lawyers, both within and outside the US, regarding the full range of contentious and non-contentious employment law issues in the UK, EMEA and APAC.
+ Development of employment policies, procedures and processes for both new and established operations, covering large employee populations in positions ranging from entry to executive level.
+ Provide thought leadership, training and strategic guidance in respect of the impact of legislative changes on our operations.
+ Guide, supervise and support the other employment lawyers in the team.
+ Mentor and support lawyers within the wider labour & employment department demonstrating positive leadership to foster an inclusive, collaborative team culture.
+ Show initiative to lead and drive the strategic objectives of the department.
+ Develop best legal practices and ways of working within the department.
Qualifications & Experience:
+ 10+ years PQE and legal experience counseling clients on the full spectrum of employment legal issues in the UK.
+ Strong project management skills.
+ Experience advising on employment issues in EMEA and APAC is also an asset.
+ Management experience.
+ The ability to work well in a fast-paced, high volume, matrixed in-house environment, demonstrating. good business judgment, flexibility and self-confidence.
+ Strategic and decisive practitioner; skilled at explaining complex legal issues in a timely, concise, straightforward manner.
+ Demonstrated ability to: think commercially and creatively; develop strong working relationships; and exercise sound, practical judgment, to assist businesses to manage risk in a constantly changing landscape.
+ High level of integrity and professionalism.
