Job Description
Our client, a prestigious professional football club, is seeking an experienced and dedicated Head Groundsman to manage and maintain their state-of-the-art pitches and training facilities in **Sheffield, South Yorkshire, UK**. This vital role ensures that the playing surfaces meet the highest standards required for professional match play and training sessions. You will be responsible for the day-to-day care of the pitches, including mowing, aeration, scarification, irrigation, fertilization, and pest and disease control. The ideal candidate will have extensive horticultural knowledge, a strong understanding of turfgrass management, and a passion for sports surfaces. You will lead and manage a team of grounds staff, providing training, guidance, and performance feedback. Budget management, including procurement of materials and equipment, will also be a key responsibility. Experience with advanced pitch maintenance techniques, such as koro recycling, sand spreading, and laser levelling, is highly desirable. You must be knowledgeable about current best practices in groundskeeping and relevant health and safety legislation. This position requires a hands-on approach, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, particularly during the playing season. A recognized qualification in turf management or horticulture is preferred. The ability to work collaboratively with coaching staff and the club's management team is essential.
