About The Remote Command Centre (RCC)
The BGIS Remote Command Centre (RCC) is a technology-driven hub that leverages advanced analytics, real-time monitoring, and expert interventions to optimise building performance remotely. By utilising a team of subject matter experts, the RCC reduces operational costs, improves energy efficiency, enhances occupant comfort, and supports clients in achieving sustainability goals.

Key RCC functions include:

Purpose of Job

The RCC Operative is responsible for the proactive monitoring and remote optimisation of building systems. Using real-time data from Building Management Systems (BMS), Fault Detection & Diagnostics (FDD) platforms, and IoT telemetry, the RCC Operative identifies inefficiencies, executes first-line interventions, and supports on-site teams to maintain and enhance building performance.

This role ensures reduced energy consumption, improved occupant comfort, operational resilience, and compliance with sustainability objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Real-Time Monitoring & Issue Identification

Monitor BMS, HVAC, lighting, and IoT systems for anomalies, inefficiencies, and operational risks.

Triage and resolve first-stage BMS issues, escalating when necessary.

Analyse telemetry data to maintain optimal environmental conditions.

Workflow Triage & Closure

Receive, log, prioritise, and manage RCC service requests through the workflow management system.

Ensure timely closure of RCC tickets and interventions in line with defined SLAs. (Client Specific)

Verify completion of actions and provide feedback to stakeholders.

Reporting & Impact Analysis

Produce clear and timely reports detailing interventions raised by the RCC, actions taken, and closures achieved.

Quantify the impact of RCC interventions, such as response time, resolution time, first-time fix rate, energy savings, improved system performance, or reduced operational risk.

Track and communicate trends in recurring issues to support root cause analysis and continuous improvement.

Contribute to monthly/quarterly client reports highlighting RCC performance metrics and key insights.

Remote Intervention & Coordination

Apply remote interventions to correct system inefficiencies.

Coordinate with on-site teams and external contractors for complex interventions.

Record all interventions for compliance and reporting purposes.

Performance Optimisation

Adjust and fine-tune FDD rules to suit specific site conditions.

Recommend control strategy enhancements to minimise energy waste.

Contribute to continuous commissioning and operational excellence initiatives.

IoT & Smart Building Support

Assist with IoT device integration and telemetry management.

Provide technical support for IoT overlays and system troubleshooting.

  • Lead the development and application of building performance simulation models (energy, daylighting, thermal comfort, CFD).
  • Analyze simulation results to identify opportunities for performance improvement and inform design decisions.
  • Develop and implement strategies for achieving high levels of energy efficiency and sustainability certification (e.g., BREEAM, LEED, Passivhaus).
  • Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and other design consultants to integrate performance analysis into the design process.
  • Provide expert advice on building physics, HVAC systems, facade design, and renewable energy integration.
  • Conduct post-occupancy evaluations and data analysis to validate performance predictions and identify operational improvements.
  • Stay abreast of the latest research, technologies, and regulations in building science and performance.
  • Mentor and guide junior analysts, fostering their technical development and analytical skills.
  • Develop and maintain best practice guidelines and workflows for building performance analysis.
  • Communicate complex technical findings clearly and effectively to design teams, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to business development by supporting proposals and developing new service offerings.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or PhD in Building Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, or a related field with a strong focus on building performance.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in building performance analysis, energy modelling, and simulation.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard simulation software (e.g., EnergyPlus, IES VE, OpenStudio, CFD tools).
  • Strong understanding of building physics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics.
  • Experience with sustainability rating systems (BREEAM, LEED, Passivhaus).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python) for data analysis and automation is a strong advantage.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a hybrid team environment.
  • Must be able to work effectively from the Glasgow office as required by the hybrid schedule.
