Overview
A Leading Facilities Engineering Contractor within the Data Centre Solutions (DCS) sector is a premier provider of critical data centre maintenance and support services in the built environment.
Working in partnership with some of the UK and Europe’s most well-known companies, currently hiring for the pivotal position of a Assistant Engineering / Facilities Manager, for a new client located in a busy campus environment in Slough.
This contractor manages the maintenance of a major UK data centre and is committed to delivering an efficient and effective critical engineering maintenance service. The primary function of this role is to ensure 100% uptime of engineering services, ensuring zero impact to the client’s business operations.
Main Purpose
To provide leadership and direction to the onsite building engineering team and contractors, ensuring effective management of the premises, plant, and equipment within the data centre. The successful candidate will act as the client’s primary point of contact for all site-related works and must demonstrate a solid understanding of the engineering, contractual, and compliance requirements within a hyperscale data centre environment.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and manage the client relationship, ensuring a high level of service; attend client meetings as required.
- Ensure Health and Safety compliance for engineers, contractors, and site visitors.
- Work closely with the Contract Support Team to maintain consistent high service levels.
- Communicate and implement company business policies and processes across the contract.
- Ensure compliance with legislative, client, and internal health, safety, and environmental programs.
- Deliver effective solutions for development, training, and performance management.
- Provide technical support across a wide range of services to both the internal team and the client.
- Meet and report on service line KPIs on a monthly basis.
- Ensure all contractual commitments are met and exceeded through strong leadership.
- Align service delivery with agreed SLAs.
- Prepare data and insights for monthly operational reviews.
- Promote continuous improvement initiatives within the team.
- Develop solutions and quotations for minor project works.
- Take ownership of all engineering-related activities within the data centre.
- Plan and implement preventative maintenance regimes.

- Oversee PPM, reactive, and corrective maintenance planning and execution.
- Manage team disciplinary actions and resolve conflicts when needed.

- Participate in the escalation chain for incidents and site issues, including out-of-hours support and technical leadership.
- Carry out additional duties as required by the Technical Manager, in line with competencies and experience.
Key Accountabilities & Deliverables
- 100% statutory compliance across all applicable service lines.
- Work closely with Contract Support & Engineering Supervisors to ensure service delivery gaps are avoided.
- Maintain and manage service line tracker documents, ensuring timely closure of actions.
- No missed statutory compliance PPMs due to planning inefficiencies.
- Deliver monthly reports in line with contract governance requirements.
- Manage the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
- Ensure rapid and effective procurement of materials and services.
- Full P&L ownership including management of WIP and debt.
- Ensure engineers are properly onboarded and equipped with tools and PPE.
- Review and implement effective contract audits and control systems to ensure all statutory and policy commitments are fulfilled.
- Conduct internal audits for QHSE, compliance, and technical documentation.
- Ensure QHSE bulletins, safety talks, and updates are communicated and embedded across the team.
- Maintain accurate and compliant logbooks.
- Lead cultural change and act as a role model for safe practices, compliance, and quality standards.
- Positively contribute to team spirit and operational excellence with a proactive and standards-driven approach.
Selection Criteria
- Strong background in data centre or mission critical engineering is essential.
