Our Transport Planning team was established in 2024 and has quickly grown into a dynamic and collaborative group. We're a close-knit team made up of an Associate Transport Planner, a Principal Transport Planner, a Graduate, and a Degree Apprentice. Together, we bring a mix of experience, fresh ideas, and a d passion for delivering innovative and sustainable transport solutions. As we continue to grow, we're looking for someone who's excited to contribute, learn, and help shape the future of our team.
Over the past year, our Transport Planning Team has been at the forefront of shaping smarter, more sustainable travel across the region. From designing over 80km of active travel routes that promote walking and cycling, to delivering insightful traffic and public transport studies that align services with the needs of local businesses, the team has made a real impact. They've also developed a compelling business case for a new mobility hub, reviewed more than 30 planning applications on behalf of the Local Highway Authority, and produced high-quality transport documentation to support a range of planning proposals. It's been a year of innovation, collaboration, and meaningful progress and we're just getting started
What you'll be doing
- Collaborate on a wide range of exciting transportation planning projects with multidisciplinary teams.
- Play a key role in supporting junior team members to deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Drive innovation and establish best practices across highway schemes and development projects.
- Lead the delivery of Feasibility Studies, Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, LCWIPs, and Active Travel Plans.
- Conduct roundabout and junction capacity checks, contribute to preliminary highway design, and coordinate traffic count and speed data collection.
What we're looking for
- Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent with post-qualification experience
- Proven record delivering in one or more of the following: LCWIPS, Local Travel Plans, Transport Assessments/Statements, Active Travel Report, Junction / Roundabout capacity modelling.
- High level junction & highway design including adoption knowledge. It would be desirable to have knowledge of the regulatory system to ensure that designs and projects comply with relevant laws and regulations.
- Knowledge and some experience of using engineering software tools such as Autocad, ARCADY/PICADY, LINSIG, TRICS, TEMPRO, PARAMICS and GIS and proficient in using Microsoft Excel. /
- Engage in activities involved in staying up to date with the latest advancements, technologies, and industry trends to provide cutting-edge solutions and maintain your expertise.
- Membership with ICE / IHE /CIHT or working towards membership.
- Full UK driving licence

Main Purpose
The Engineering Manager will lead the engineering and maintenance functions at our drinks manufacturing facility, with a strong focus on bottling and canning line operations. Duties:
- Ensure compliance with health and safety, food safety, and regulatory standards (e.g., HACCP, ISO, GMP).
- Monitor and optimize line performance, OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), and energy usage.

Requirements:

- Minimum 5+ years of engineering management experience in beverage or FMCG manufacturing, preferably in a canning facility.
- Strong knowledge of high-speed canning lines, packaging machinery, conveyors, fillers, seamers, and CIP systems.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation (PUWER, DSEAR, EAWR etc.)
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing maintenance and engineering teams.
- Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and project management abilities.
Desirable
- Knowledge of PLCs, automation systems, and SCADA.
- Lean Six Sigma certification.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Placement Student CES - Customer Engineering - to join our team for 12 months, specializing in Engineering business segment in Darlington. During your placement, you will learn how a major global organization operates, gaining the tools and exposure you will need to launch your career in the industry and **power your potential** !
This role is available to candidates who qualify for a placement year and will commence on Summer 2026.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
+ Applying a broad level of technical awareness across multiple engineering disciplines such as engine performance, mechanics, aerodynamics and design.
+ Working with customers to manage their requirements, collaborating with internal stakeholders to review and assess against product capabilities, then developing detailed specifications for new products.
+ Creating then managing validation plans to ensure products are robust and proven to meet the customers' requirements. Leveraging internal testing capabilities within our laboratory operations by specifying test plans, evaluating data and directing technical reviews of the results.
+ Supporting general customer enquiries, providing a high quality and timely level of service.
+ Sourcing information, interpreting data, developing and implementing solutions that are results focused and to agreed deadlines, as per technical requests.
+ Using internal systems and document libraries, ensuring robust written communication and record keeping.
+ Collaborate with a wide range of internal stakeholders to assess and deliver customer requirements, working both independently and in teams.
+ Leading/supporting application subsystem testing at customer sites.
+ Lead small projects or sections of larger projects, alongside customer engineers and or functional experts.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
+ We are looking for a wide range of applications studying towards a STEM degree.
+ Excellent communication skills and teamwork skills are required due to the interface with both customer and Cummins Internal departments.
+ Self-motivated with a willingness to learn.
+ Existing skills with MS applications and CAD are also beneficial, although not essential.
