Senior R&D Tax Technical Consultant – Civil & Construction

Location: London

Our client, a specialist consultancy, is looking to bring a Senior R&D Tax Technical Consultant into their growing team. This opportunity is well suited to someone with a civil or structural engineering background who enjoys working at the intersection of technical innovation and commercial impact.

The Role

In this position, you’ll be responsible for guiding clients through the full R&D claims process, from initial scoping to submission and beyond. Typical responsibilities will include:

• Preparing clear, well-structured technical reports that meet compliance standards while maximising client benefit.
• Leading technical discussions with stakeholders at all levels, from engineers on the ground through to senior leadership.
• Reviewing and assessing engineering and construction projects to establish their eligibility for R&D tax relief.
• Managing claims from end-to-end, including timelines, deliverables, and client communication.
• Acting as a technical representative for clients during HMRC enquiries, ensuring claims are defended with accuracy and rigour.
• Staying up to date with changes in legislation and best practice in the R&D incentives space, and sharing insight with colleagues and clients.

What We’re Looking For

• A degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 2–4 years’ experience within R&D tax consultancy, with proven success in leading claims.
• Strong ability to analyse complex technical projects and translate them into accessible, structured narratives.
• Experience managing client relationships and portfolios, with the confidence to mentor junior team members.
• Knowledge of DSIT Guidelines, CIRD, and current HMRC enquiry processes.

• Responsible for Ensuring CBRE platforms utilised and maintained such as Quantum to ensure risk radar kept up to date.
• Lead cultural change on a daily basis, through being an effective role model for safe working practices, compliance, quality standards and best practice methods.
• Positive contribution to the “team" effort, with a “can do" attitude and raising of standards.
• Develop the engineering team though coaching and mentoring on critical maintenance and operations as defined within CERM methodologies.
