The Opportunity 

This 12-month placement offers a starting salary of £24,500 and the chance to work at one of our key nuclear sites.  

You’ll gain hands-on experience implementing cyber security policy, monitoring threats, and supporting incident response. This placement offers a unique opportunity to work across enterprise IT and industrial OT environments, contributing to the safe and secure operation of a nuclear power station. 

What You’ll Be Doing 

During your Cyber Security Industrial Placement, you’ll work at #Hartlepool Power Station. Past students have helped implement cyber security policies, monitored threats, supported incident response, and contributed to risk management activities across diverse computing systems. 

This placement offers practical learning in a professional environment, supported by experienced teams and mentors. You’ll apply academic knowledge to real industry contexts while completing degree-relevant modules and gaining insight into cyber security within the energy sector. 

Your Work Location 

You’ll be based on site at #Hartlepool Power Station. 

Who You Are  

To be eligible for this EDF industrial placement, you need to be on track to achieve, or have already achieved, a bachelor’s degree (2:2 or higher) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cyber Security or a related field.

Security Vetting

• Lead the design, development, and optimisation of chemical processes for new and existing products.
• Conduct process simulations, feasibility studies, and pilot plant trials to validate designs and troubleshoot issues.
• Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) with high accuracy.
• Ensure all process designs comply with stringent safety regulations (e.g., HAZOP studies) and environmental standards.
• Collaborate closely with R&D, engineering, operations, and safety teams to ensure seamless project execution.
• Oversee process commissioning and start-up activities, providing expert technical support.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and minimise waste.
• Mentor and guide junior process engineers, fostering their technical and professional development.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in chemical engineering technologies, materials, and methodologies.
• Manage process-related aspects of capital projects, from conceptualisation to completion.

• MSc or PhD in Chemical Engineering.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status is highly preferred.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in process engineering within the chemical manufacturing sector.
• Proven expertise in process design, simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS), and P&ID development.
• In-depth knowledge of chemical reaction engineering, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mass/heat transfer.
• Strong understanding of process safety principles and experience conducting HAZOP studies.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Exceptional communication, leadership, and project management abilities.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment on-site.
• Experience with scale-up challenges and optimisation of industrial chemical processes.

• Oversee all phases of civil engineering projects, from conception and planning through to execution and closeout.
• Develop detailed project plans, including scope, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
• Manage and lead project teams, including engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders, ensuring effective collaboration.
• Ensure projects are delivered in compliance with all relevant engineering standards, building codes, and regulatory requirements.
• Monitor project progress, identify potential risks and issues, and implement mitigation strategies.
• Manage project finances, track expenditures, and ensure projects remain within budgetary constraints.
• Procure necessary materials, equipment, and services, and manage vendor relationships.
• Conduct regular project reviews and provide comprehensive status reports to senior management and clients.
• Foster a strong safety culture and ensure all health and safety protocols are strictly adhered to on-site.
• Liaise with clients, local authorities, and other external parties to ensure project objectives are met.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Professional Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent professional qualification is highly desirable.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in civil engineering project management, with a strong portfolio of delivered infrastructure projects.
• Demonstrated expertise in project planning, scheduling, cost control, and risk management.
• In-depth knowledge of civil engineering design principles, construction methods, and materials.
• Familiarity with relevant UK engineering standards, regulations, and contract management practices.
