Are you looking for a placement at the end of your second or third year and are you studying a Chemical Engineering degree? If so, Cargill can offer you a superb opportunity to gain valuable work experience on our 13-month Undergraduate programme.
During your placement with Cargill, you will spend your time in one of our sites in the UK.
You will be responsible for small projects from initial design to completion. This will involve justification of projects, design, liaise with contractors to obtain the best possible solution, installation and finally commissioning. This could be anything from modification of pipe work to implementing changes in the process. You will participate in day-to-day manufacturing operations and this could include shift work.
The Engineering Placement programme is a great pathway to the EMEA Graduate Program.
**What you will be doing:**
- Comprehensive induction to Cargill including full safety training
- Spend time working on-shift to learn our processes and support site production management
- Play an active part in running our process and supporting our business
- Support and lead small continuous improvement processes, delivering improvements around safety, food safety, product yield and process efficiency
- Be given direct responsibility for capital projects, including the design, installation and commissioning to help develop project management skills and responsibility for a future career
- Responsible for running regular site project update meetings and maintaining budget information for all site projects on Cargill's project monitoring software
- Coordinate input from engineering disciplines and subject matter experts to ensure engineering designs meet the specific needs of the business
- Learn soft skills that will be transferable in your future career
- Gain an excellent working knowledge of unit operations learnt at university with hands on practical experience
- Develop the ability to work with a variety of different colleagues in our operations i.e. operators, supervisors, supply chain, finance, health & safety and food quality.

**What we are looking for:**
- Currently studying for an undergraduate Chemical Engineering Degree (BEng. or MEng.) with an expected grade of 2:1 or above
- Students that are able to take ownership, want to gain hands on experience, and are curious and passionate to learn as well as being a strong communicator
- Good technical understanding of a process environment
- Ability to learn to use new engineering and management software swiftly and proficiently
- A strong interest in our business, our industry and in particular the position you have applied for
- Fluency in English language.

Established in 2003, this family run business employs approx. 30 employees. Their team provides an all-round design, laser, fold and fabrication service to a broad customer base.
They are seeking a professional who is passionate about engineering and flexible to manage the needs of the business. The ideal candidate will be competent with Solidworks to design, and re-design parts specifically for manufacture.
Candidates would need a knowledge of Solidworks sheet metal modelling and have the ability to produce drawings for Laser, bend drawings for Press Brake, and working drawings for manufacture and assembly operations. Our CAD Technicians interpret the customer specifications, and design for production using tolerance and specifications from our Laser and Press Brake Department. There is a need to identify the most efficient techniques for fabrication and emphasise these to the production department.
A broad knowledge of IT packages and good communication skills, both visual and verbal, are essential. The role includes the creation of job packs and BOMs, and adherence to the company file structure.
Duties:

Produce accurate working drawings utilising Solidworks.

Liaison between the production department and the customer to resolve manufacturing issues, identify problems and agree solutions.

Have knowledge of suitable, efficient and economical production processes and materials.

Ensure that pertinent and accurate technical data is passed to production and shared with sub-contractors where necessary.

Adhere to the structured file system for control of all customer drawings.

Produce accurate designs in a timely manner to enable the company to meet tight deadlines.

Carry out a contract review and liaise with customers, as required.

- IOSH qualification (Food Safety / Hygiene desirable).
- Confident using planned maintenance systems

**The Apprenticeship**
You will start your Degree Apprenticeship in September 2026, attending the University of Nottingham for block placement, and working towards achieving a full undergraduate degree in Electro- Mechanical Engineering. You will also have the opportunity to become registered with a relevant professional institution.
The apprenticeship supports career growth through blended learning. It offers business and role-specific training, networking, mentoring, and practical experience. It includes an induction, training days, online content, on-the-job learning, and on-demand resources.
Together with the dedicated Early Careers team, support from your team and assigned buddy, we will work closely with you over the course of your apprenticeship to support and plan a development pathway that suits you.
Typically, the Degree Apprenticeship takes between 5-6 years to complete (including End Point Assessment in England).
We also have a unique Professional Growth Network (PGN), which is a networking group run by early career professionals for ECP's. It helps to grow your network of contacts across the business as well as providing you with opportunities for extra experience and to support you in achieving chartered status or other professional accreditations.
**What we will be looking for you to demonstrate.**
+ 5 GCSE's Grade C/Level 5 or above (or equivalent) including English, Maths and Science.
+ Achieved or predicted A Level grades BBB (or equivalent), including Maths at A Level, are required.
+ OR achieved or predicted a BTEC Extended Diploma (Level 3) with grades DDM in an engineering-related subject. This must include a further Maths component.
