Our Civil Engineering graduates gain valuable experience working on a variety of global projects alongside a multitude of different disciplines. + Undertake numerical analysis including the use of computer-based programmes to assist with the study of potable, surface and wastewater system
+ Undertake technical and feasibility studies to appraise the practicability of alternative solutions in aspects such as potable water, foul water, surface water and attenuation requirements, including appropriate calculations
+ Undertake structural analysis and design such as determination of the design situation and load cases, including calculation and use of analysis software
+ Produce designs of water infrastructure such as pump systems and pipe networks with attenuation to safety in design, such as creating a Designer's Risk Assessment document
+ Produce sketches, check and consolidate final working drawings created by Technicians
+ Keep up-to-date with developments in regulatory legislation and guidelines that may affect design work
+ Working with other team members to undertake technical work, site work, and project management

Our Transport Planning team was established in 2024 and has quickly grown into a dynamic and collaborative group. We're a close-knit team made up of an Associate Transport Planner, a Principal Transport Planner, a Graduate, and a Degree Apprentice. Together, we bring a mix of experience, fresh ideas, and a d passion for delivering innovative and sustainable transport solutions. Over the past year, our Transport Planning Team has been at the forefront of shaping smarter, more sustainable travel across the region. From designing over 80km of active travel routes that promote walking and cycling, to delivering insightful traffic and public transport studies that align services with the needs of local businesses, the team has made a real impact. They've also developed a compelling business case for a new mobility hub, reviewed more than 30 planning applications on behalf of the Local Highway Authority, and produced high-quality transport documentation to support a range of planning proposals. What you'll be doing

  • Collaborate on a wide range of exciting transportation planning projects with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Play a key role in supporting junior team members to deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Drive innovation and establish best practices across highway schemes and development projects.
  • Lead the delivery of Feasibility Studies, Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, LCWIPs, and Active Travel Plans.
  • Conduct roundabout and junction capacity checks, contribute to preliminary highway design, and coordinate traffic count and speed data collection.

What we're looking for

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent with post-qualification experience
  • Proven record delivering in one or more of the following: LCWIPS, Local Travel Plans, Transport Assessments/Statements, Active Travel Report, Junction / Roundabout capacity modelling.
  • High level junction & highway design including adoption knowledge. It would be desirable to have knowledge of the regulatory system to ensure that designs and projects comply with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge and some experience of using engineering software tools such as Autocad, ARCADY/PICADY, LINSIG, TRICS, TEMPRO, PARAMICS and GIS and proficient in using Microsoft Excel. /
  • Engage in activities involved in staying up to date with the latest advancements, technologies, and industry trends to provide cutting-edge solutions and maintain your expertise.
  • Membership with ICE / IHE /CIHT or working towards membership.
  • Full UK driving licence

Main Purpose


The Engineering Manager will lead the engineering and maintenance functions at our drinks manufacturing facility, with a strong focus on bottling and canning line operations. This is a critical role in ensuring optimal equipment performance, minimal downtime, and continuous improvement in line efficiency and safety.


Duties:


  • Ensure compliance with health and safety, food safety, and regulatory standards (e.g., HACCP, ISO, GMP).
  • Monitor and optimize line performance, OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), and energy usage.
  • Lead and manage the maintenance and engineering team, including hiring, training, performance management, and shift coverage planning.
  • Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs to ensure maximum equipment uptime, especially on high-speed bottling and canning lines.
  • Manage and deliver engineering capital projects including machinery upgrades, installations, and plant expansions.
  • Oversee troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues across all manufacturing and utility systems.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with Production, Quality Assurance, and Supply Chain teams to ensure production goals are met efficiently and safely.
  • Manage engineering budgets, contractor relationships, spare parts inventory, and procurement of technical services.
  • Management of site equipment obsolescence and replacement programme.
  • Management of infrastructure maintenance across site.
  • Maintain up to date documentation.


Requirements:


  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or related discipline).
  • Minimum 5+ years of engineering management experience in beverage or FMCG manufacturing, preferably in a canning facility.
  • Strong knowledge of high-speed canning lines, packaging machinery, conveyors, fillers, seamers, and CIP systems.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation (PUWER, DSEAR, EAWR etc.)
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing maintenance and engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and project management abilities.


Desirable

  • Knowledge of PLCs, automation systems, and SCADA.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification.
  • Experience in a startup or scale-up manufacturing environment.
  • Familiar with sustainability initiatives, such as energy-saving and waste reduction in manufacturing.

+ Lead small projects or sections of larger projects, alongside customer engineers and or functional experts.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
+ We are looking for a wide range of applications studying towards a STEM degree.
+ Excellent communication skills and teamwork skills are required due to the interface with both customer and Cummins Internal departments.
+ Self-motivated with a willingness to learn.
+ Existing skills with MS applications and CAD are also beneficial, although not essential.

About the role:

As an Engineering Technician, you will play a critical role in transforming complex engineering information into digital formats that enhance accessibility and usability. By understanding engineering drawings and documents, such as P&IDs, data sheets, and specifications, you’ll extract key technical information and build meaningful digital relationships between data points.

This is an office-based role, ideal for someone with a background in engineering maintenance or design, or process engineering, or related fields who are passionate about transforming engineering information into actionable digital solutions.

As the Engineering Technician you will:

  • Read and interpret engineering documents and drawings, including P&IDs, specifications, and data sheets.
  • Extract technical data from engineering drawings and documents, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
  • Build and document complex relationships between data and documents, including hierarchy relationships from process plant, instrument loop, and electrical systems.
  • Validate and maintain data integrity in compliance with ISO standards and client requirements.
  • Convert tagging specifications and technical documentation from paper to digital formats, enhancing usability and accessibility.
  • Generate reports and visualizations, providing insights and actionable recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Locate and source equipment-related information from engineering registers, client data, and online resources.
  • Collaborate within integrated project teams, providing coaching and support to team members on engineering data concepts and best practices.
  • Research missing equipment-related information online or directly contact equipment suppliers to gather additional details.
  • Solve technical queries related to engineering data and digital transformation processes.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in an engineering environment.
  • Understanding of engineering documents and drawing interpretation (e.g., P&IDs, data sheets).
  • Ability to identify and extract key data from documents and drawings.
  • Familiarity with class libraries, attributes, and document types.
  • A meticulous approach to data validation and integrity, with the ability to meet ISO standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, for stakeholder engagement.

We are looking for an enthusiastic **Current Product** **Placement Student** to join our team for 12 months, specializing in Engineering for our CES (Cummins Emissions Solutions) business segment in Darlington. During your placement, you will learn how a major global organization operates, gaining the tools and exposure you will need to launch your career in the industry and **power your potential** !
Working under the guidance of the Technical Specialist, the student will be involved in all aspects of the current product engineering group, assisting to provide technical support for Cummins Emission Solutions technology, throughout Europe.
This role is available to candidates who qualify for a placement year and will commence Summer of 2026.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
+ Supporting the identification, resolution and implementation of fixes on key product issues with Automotive OEM's.
+ Potential site and field visitation for current product issues.
+ Participating in product issue projects following the 7-step process including fault tree analysis, field data analysis and route cause analysis.
+ Vehicle and test cell data analysis using Cummins own analysis tools and Matlab.
+ Working closely with functional experts across the globe to understand the assignable cause and drive a resolution for the end users in a timely manner.
+ Involvement in the placement student team community involvement team planning charity and local community support events.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
+ We are looking for a wide range of applicants studying towards a Bachelor's or Master's degree from across all Engineering & STEM related subjects
+ Excellent computing skills; Experience with Microsoft Office desirable.
+ An understanding of how a diesel engine works and a basic knowledge of how an aftertreatment system works.
+ Good team working, communication and task prioritization.
+ Enthusiasm and interest in Engineering is required
