Overview
Working for a large manufacturing business we now require a Engineering Manager / Maintenance Manager to join the dynamic team to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the facility.
The ideal candidate / Engineering Manager / Maintenance Manager may have some of the following, however, please note these are only desirable and not essential as all applications will be looked at individually:
- Previous experience managing and leading a team within a Process Engineering environment - ideally food/drink.
- Must be an influential Leader and have an understanding of the latest maintenance techniques.

Key duties/responsibilities:
- Establish Maintenance Engineering strategies to achieve the overall production reliability in line with the company goals, KPIs and budgetary objectives.
- Management of all Capital Projects from conception to completion
- Environmental control - responsible dealing with local authorities on environmental and planning issues
- Manage the reliability of the plant through the in house system ensuring improvement of equipment uptime through predictive analysis and assessment.
- Own and develop the PPM system ensuring checks and repairs are carried out on time and effectively by the shift engineers.
- Carry out Root Cause Analysis or critical plant issues suggesting engineering solutions for major downtime incidents.
- Monitor spares for critical equipment to ensure a fast response to breakdowns.
- Conduct equipment life span, obsolescence studies and develop appropriate upgrade / replacement strategies.
- Promote effective communication between internal / external teams
- Maintain a positive Health, Safety and environmental culture in all staff and contractors on site.
- Coach, mentor and support all team members to optimize their performance
- Provide appropriate training and development opportunities for the team
- Carry out performance reviews and disciplinary procedures are required
- Set and monitor objectives for the team to ensure all KPIs are met
- Manage and control departmental expenditure within agreed budgets

The Role
The Engineering Lecturer will teach and deliver courses to Apprentices at Levels 3 & 4. You will feed into the planning of curriculums based on the apprenticeship requirements, prepare schemes of work, prepare lesson plans and the appropriate resource materials for the learners.
The Engineering Lecturer will teach on a range of engineering topics including mechanical, electrical and multiskilled content in addition to regularly assessing learner progress. You will provide both academic and pastoral support to learners, seeking to continually embed STEM content into your learning.
You will create and maintain a safe and secure learning environment, complying with the relevant Health and Safety requirements in addition to supporting inductions.
The Person
The successful candidate will ideally have experience teaching L3 & L4 Engineering courses to apprentices in a workshop environment or will possess a valid background in manufacturing / engineering and be seeking transfer your knowledge and expertise into a teaching format.
If you have previously taught, you will be conversant with modern learning and teaching methods and hold a teaching qualification for the further education sector such as DET, DTLLS, PGSE or equivalent.
The Engineering Lecturer will possess a minimum of Level 4 Engineering qualification with a focus on engineering in either a teaching or industrially focused work history.
For candidates considering a teaching career, moving from the engineering and manufacturing sectors, this business is incredibly happy to fund and support a teaching qualification as part of your initial training.

The role is centred around teaching groups of engineering apprentices, normally with 12-14 in a class. Exact units within which a Lecturer is expected to deliver learning will be dictated by their prior knowledge and experience, however being a small team, you will be expected to deliver a range of engineering disciplines.
The ideal candidate would have industry experience prior to their teaching career and be able to bring that experience into their delivery in an engaging, creative and effective way.
Lecturers teach roughly 80% of their hours with 20% for planning, marking, student meetings etc.
Responsibilities
- Feed into the planning of curriculums for a range of cohorts related to the requirements of the apprenticeships delivered. li>Prepare all schemes of work, lesson plans and resource materials for the units you are teaching.
- Teach on a range of engineering knowledge units at L3 and L4 (4 only if qualified to HNC). Also, opportunity to teach L2 workshop skills if able and qualified to do so.
- Create and maintain resources needed to teach the course, ensuring they remain up-to-date and accessible to learners.
- Utilise IT and learning technology to deliver elements of the curriculum.
- Feed into the preparation of assessment plans and schedules and ensure learners are aware of expectations.
- Assess learner progress regularly, supporting them both academically and pastorally. Provide written and oral feedback throughout the course and carry out 1to1 progress reviews, including the completion of necessary documents.
- Differentiate delivery to allow access for all regardless of if the learner requires additional support requirements or need extending.
- Embed Maths, English and ICT within the curriculum and your delivery.
- Carry out learner inductions to the course.
