Overview of the role

We're looking for an environmental consultant to join our team.

The focus of the role will be the environmental assessment of energy projects in the UK. These are primarily in the nuclear, networks and energy transition sectors for a range of clients. However, there will also be opportunities to work on projects in Europe, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. We are involved in some of the most significant generation projects in the world, including nuclear, solar, hydro, wind, and thermal transition technologies.

Key elements of the role will include:
  • Supporting UK EIAs for energy projects (including for DCO applications)
  • Due diligence for a variety of energy projects
  • Supporting delivery of environmental management plans
  • Coordinating specialists' inputs
  • Working closely with our engineering colleagues to ensure environmental considerations are made during project development
  • Preparing proposals

You'd be part of a truly multidisciplinary team; working alongside some of the best environmental specialists, social specialists and engineers in the industry.

Candidate specification:

Essential:
  • Fluent in English
  • Degree and Masters qualified in an environmental subject
  • Experience of EIAs for UK energy projects such as transmission and distribution, solar, hydro, wind, and thermal generation technologies
  • Able to review complex documents, summaries and present the key issues in a clear and concise way
  • Understanding of the technical aspects of energy projects
  • Ability to travel
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and writing skills
  • Able to work within a team and deliver to high standards
  • Able to meet challenging budgets and timescales
  • Membership of a relevant professional institute.

Desirable:
  • A high standard in an environmental specialism and a broader awareness of other environmental or social disciplines

As Principal EIA Consultant, you will take a leading role in the delivery of high-profile EIA projects for major development and infrastructure clients. Working alongside a well-established team of specialists, you’ll shape project strategies, guide junior colleagues, and help maintain the consultancy’s outstanding record of successful outcomes.


This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on, team-focused environment. You will have genuine influence from early feasibility through to consent, supported by a modern, flexible culture where your voice is heard and your ideas are encouraged.


Key Responsibilities


  • Lead and support EIA projects from initial concept through to submission
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary technical inputs and ensure high-quality deliverables
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, attending meetings and providing confident guidance
  • Offer clear, pragmatic advice on environmental planning and consenting issues
  • Support day-to-day project management to ensure delivery on time and within budget
  • Mentor and develop junior team members within a collaborative and supportive setting


About You


  • Strong track record in EIA delivery, with experience managing multi-disciplinary teams
  • Excellent working knowledge of UK planning and consenting processes
  • Confident communicator, client-facing and commercially aware
  • Team-orientated, supportive and keen to share knowledge
  • Ideally chartered, or working towards chartership
