The EHS officer will support the QEHS department in ensuring legal and regulatory compliance, maintaining management systems, promoting a safe working environment, and delivering continuous improvement in health, safety, and environmental performance across the business.
Job Responsibilities:
QEHS System Implementation and Support
• Assist in the implementation and maintenance of the Business Management System, specifically the environmental and health and safety management systems (ISO 14001 and ISO 45001).
• To support the achievement of the QEHS strategy, objectives, and KPIs.
• Support continuous improvement in relation to EHS.
• Support the QEHS Director in maintaining the Legal Register and the Aspects Register.
• Work together with the quality team, supporting them when necessary.
• Conduct internal audits and inspections.
• Assist with root cause analysis, identifying corrective actions, implementing corrective actions, and follow-up.
Legal and Regulatory Compliance
• Support functional managers in understanding EHS legal requirements and the company EHS procedures.
• Liaise with external bodies/service providers, including HSE, to support investigations and respond to queries.
• Support the business in its environmental legal compliance, including packaging regulations, plastic packaging, and the Environmental Permit.
Risk Management and Incident Investigation
• Lead in conducting and documenting Risk Assessments (including COSHH and manual handling) with cross-functional teams.
• Assist with incident and accident investigations.
• Create safety alerts to communicate significant incidents or injuries.
• Collaborate with shift/department managers to implement preventive safety measures and safe systems of work.
Training, Communication, and Awareness
• Conduct new employee QEHS inductions.
• Create EHS toolbox talks for Shift/Department Managers to deliver at huddles or team meetings.
• Create and deliver EHS training materials for in-house use.
Data Management and Reporting
• Keep accurate records of various health and safety activities.
• Monitor compliance with KPIs and create trend graphs and reports to support QEHS continuous improvement.
Key Skills
- NEBOSH General certificate & IOSH member
- 3 years working in H&S in a manufacturing environment (preferably IVDs or chemicals type environment)
- Good understanding of UK HSE law ISO 45001 & 14001 management systems experience

About the Role
Reporting into a Team Leader (each team is circa 5-7) and up to the Director of Professional Services, you will be joining a market leading team of professionals to undertake risk assessments, environmental audits and advise on fire, environmental, health and safety matters at mainly low-medium sized buildings, to our established portfolio of clients across a variety of segments, including, residential, commercial and retail.
Responsibilities:
- Undertake risk assessments including fire and health and safety, ensuring the fee earning target is met.
- Undertaking environmental audits against recognised standards.
- Undertake various fire, environmental, health and safety assignments within your competency.
- Deliver client reports within the agreed SLA, in accordance with a forensic and pragmatic approach to ensure the Ark ‘Gold Standard’ is achieved.
- Design health and safety site management systems where required, specific to client requirements.
- Undertake onsite briefings and advise on risk management improvements.
- Work collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Work with other consultants on learning opportunities to ensure we are constantly sharing knowledge across the team.
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of controlling risks, compliances etc in relation to our online management system QUOODA®
- Remain up to date with the Technical and regulatory requirements impacting our clients.
- The employee shall keep up with CPD in their own time as well as attend briefings and participate in CPD activities as directed by the Professional Services Director.
- The employee to make every effort to attend training and study plans.
- The employee shall carry out any reasonable request made by the line manager.
Practical Requirements:
The consultant has a full driving license and ability to drive/ travel by public transport to assignments.
Ability to facilitate hybrid working with home office that is suitable for connectivity to the office and clients, a safe and productive place to work conducive for delivering daily duties.
