Our client is a global packaging manufacturer, specifically focusing on food and medical packaging. They are currently looking to recruit an experienced Enviromental Health & Safety Manager to ensure key business standards relating to health, safety & environment are implemented and adhered to.

Responsibilities:

• To ensure the site adheres to current H&S Legislation and stays compliant by continuously reviewing the legal register.
• Collect, analyse and report all KPI data to agreed deadlines.
• Ensure corporate policies and initiatives are implemented and communicated to all employees.
• To support and work with Departmental Managers in all aspects of EHS management to ensure it is up to standard in their respective departments, with a strong emphasis on risk assessment, training and auditing.
• The site is subject to the internal H&S Group auditing programme.
• It is the responsibility of the jobholder to drive full compliance with the requirements.
• Maintain the Environmental ISO 14001 Standard and ensure the site's environmental impact is evaluated and objectives and plans are implemented.
• Ensure Operation Clean Sweep is fully implemented and adhered to.
• Continuously promote and educate all employees to ensure full compliance is achieved.
• Liaise with all departments to ensure that company rules and procedures are followed at all times

Qualifications:

• NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent)
• Knowledge of EHS regulations and associated requirements
• Previous experience in an EHS role

Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Advisor

Location: Avonmouth, Bristol

Salary: £37,000 - £45,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Key Responsibilities

• Lead by example and champion a strong safety culture
• Act as the main point of contact for all EHS matters
• Prepare, review, and update policies, procedures, and risk assessments
• Oversee safety accreditations, working towards ISO 14001 & 45001
• Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions
• Coordinate health surveillance programmes and reporting
• Oversee vehicle & driver fleet compliance
• Deliver EHS communications, including a regular bulletin
• Manage fire safety, training, PPE, first aid, and DSE assessment and Keep up to date with legislation and advise on changes to ensure compliance   

About you

NEBOSH General Certificate (essential)

NEBOSH National Diploma (preferred, or equivalent)

Previous experience in a manufacturing, engineering, semiconductor, or warehousing environment

Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail

Confident communicator with excellent written and verbal skills

Able to work autonomously with a flexible, proactive approach

THE POSITION

We are hiring an EHS Advisor on a Fixed Term Contract focusing on a Risk Assessment improvement and development project. You will support and contribute to the development, implementation and maintenance of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS), Biosafety (BSY) and Bio-security strategies, procedures and initiatives across the Pirbright site to deliver proactive EHS, Biosafety and Bio-security behaviours and enable employees to work in a compliant way, within an environment that demands strict regulatory and corporate requirements and awareness.

This is a fully site-based role based in Pirbright on a Fixed Term Contract ending 31 October 2026 .

WHAT YOU’LL DO

EHS/BSY management

• Provide advice and recommendations to employees on matters of EHS to ensure compliance with UK EHS legislation and Corporate Requirements

• Participate in the creation, development and maintenance of EHS/BSY documentation such as SOPs and Risk assessments

• Ensure all incidents, near misses and accidents are recorded, investigated and filed

• Undertake EHS inspections/BSY audits in agreed locations

• Support priority projects as assigned

• Assist in the development and maintenance of Pirbright site incident response and crisis management processes

• Conduct periodic validation of fumigation locks at the Pirbright site

• Participate in Global EHS audits and Regulatory (HSE or Environment Agency) visits

• Support the follow up and close out of identified actions from investigations, risk assessments, inspections and audits

REQUIREMENTS

• NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent qualification

• Good spoken and written communication skills

• Able to use computer systems eg Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint

• Ability to manage time effectively, being able to plan and complete work to schedule

• Demonstrates a positive 'can do' attitude, building relationships and upholding processes and procedures

• Knowledge and experience of EHS/BSY regulations and legal framework

• Knowledge and experience of risk assessment and root cause analysis methodologies

• Logical thinking and problem solving ability

• Good organisational skills and attention to detail

• Good hazard observation skills

• Ability to deliver training on EHS/BSY topics
