We’re looking for an Environmental Specialist to join our HSE team at Ardeer, reporting to the HSE Manager. This is a key role in maintaining a suitable Environmental Management System and ensuring that all operations at CEUK are undertaken in full compliance with environmental and waste-related legislation and company procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out all activities in compliance with HSE legislation, company policy, and procedures.
- Report unsafe acts and conditions via the Near Miss system.
- Review, improve, and communicate the Environmental Management System (EMS), ensuring ISO 14001 compliance.
- Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and permit conditions (PPC, abstraction, discharge).

- Manage waste movements, ensure compliance with waste regulations, and support waste reduction in line with the waste hierarchy.
- Collate and submit Climate Change Agreement (CCA) data and annual packaging returns.
- Support HSE Manager in integrating environmental, health, and safety issues within the team.
- Provide support to the Emergency Response and Crisis Management Teams, including environmental emergency training.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree in Environmental Management or related discipline.
- Lead Auditor ISO 14001 qualification.
- IEMA – Environmental certification.
- NEBOSH certification.
- Proven experience as an Environmental Specialist or Manager.
- Strong knowledge of ISO 14001, certification audits, and compliance.
- Experience managing environmental consents, PPC permits, and working with SEPA.
- Knowledge of ER2014 and COMAH regulations from an environmental perspective.
- Skilled in incident investigation, root cause analysis, and problem solving.
- Advanced IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

The Associate Environmental Specialist's role involves understanding environmental risks and general environmental compliance and is responsible for utilizing existing Environment procedures to solve routine or standard problems. The Cambridge Archaeological Unit (CAU) which is part of the Department of Archaeology is inviting applications from internal applicants for the role of Project Supervisor (Grade I). The CAU is undertaking archaeological investigations on a range of excavations, evaluations and surveys throughout East Anglia. Confirmed sites include prehistoric landscapes, Iron Age and Roman settlements and various urban sites.
The role of Specialist (Grade I) - Environmental Specialist is to process, analyse and report on charred and waterlogged archaeobotanical remains from fieldwork and post-excavation projects, from evaluation through to publication, ensuring that projects are completed to a sufficiently high standard in accordance with the various national and regional guidelines.
The Role holder is responsible for implementing day-to-day health and safety requirements and ensuring a safe working environment as part of the CAU's Finds and Environmental team.
The CAU has one Specialist (Grade I) - Environmental Specialist post available for internal applicants.
Requirements:
- Educated to Batchelor & Master's degree level in Archaeology, with a Master's degree focus in Environmental Archaeology.
- Applicants must demonstrate a knowledge of British Archaeology and current themes, practices and sampling approaches in Environmental Archaeology and demonstrate a strong willingness to develop their career.
- Practical fieldwork and environmental processing experience essential.
- Demonstrate knowledge of specialist reporting requirements for Evaluation, Post Excavation Assessment, Analysis and Publication projects.
- Demonstrate specialist knowledge and skill in an aspect of archaeobotanical study, eg charred plant remains, waterlogged plant remains, charcoal analysis.
- Applicants will be able to demonstrate a high degree of precision & accuracy, be able to work to strict deadlines, follow specifications laid out in archaeological briefs, follow CIfA best practice, H&S guidance & legislation, and respond to deadlines.
- Good IT skills including an aptitude for learning to use databases and new software.
- Be able to demonstrate a track record of producing specialist reports and / or publication on an aspect of archaeobotanical study.

You will have the opportunity to work on a range of environmental lighting projects delivering design and advisory services for different sectors, such as (but not limited to) architectural, planning, dark skies, local government, rail, highways, and aviation. Our growing capability supports the wider lighting and energy solutions team and closely collaborates with WSPs other disciplines both nationally and internationally giving you the opportunity to develop a broader understanding of the company and what we offer.

**A little more about your role.**
We are seeking to recruit a **Senior Environmental Lighting Specialist** to join our Lighting & Energy Solutions team based in one of our UK offices.
Within this role you will actively support the development of our environmental capability as well as supporting the Environmental and Net-Zero team in undertaking of obtrusive light assessments, environmental impact assessments and delivering quality lighting impact assessment survey reports. These projects may be either standalone or part of wider projects being delivered by us nationally and internationally.
You will also have the opportunity to aid the development of our Net-Zero capability working with our clients to provide technical support and solutions to help provide advisory and design solutions that align with Circular Economy and low Embodied Carbon deliverables.
**A typical week:**
You will be required to support with:
+ Technical delivery of environmental reports and strategy documents which will include working with other WSP teams such as ecology, planning and/or architectural lighting colleagues;
+ Developing your own and supporting junior staff expertise development in environmental lighting skills sets;
+ Reviewing client requirements, and developing technical bid proposals;
+ Assisting the Project Manager in carrying out project bids, reviews and delivering outcome reports;
+ Delivering technical lighting reports, strategy reports and environmental impact assessment reports;
+ Lighting designs using Lighting Reality, Dialux (or other) design software when needed; and
+ Undertaking site surveys (aligned with Institution of Lighting Professionals (ILP) PLG04).
**What we will be looking for you to demonstrate.**
+ Understanding and technical aspects of obtrusive lighting, dark skies, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and associated professional guidance documents;
+ Membership of an appropriate Professional Institution;
+ Registration with the Engineering Council (EngTech, IEng or CEng);
+ Proficient in the use of AGI32, Dialux (or other) design software;
+ Are able to demonstrate competency and experience within a lighting design project;
+ Able to coach and mentor junior members of the design team;
+ Are able to work independently, and as part of a team;
+ Can prioritise and be flexible; and
+ You should have fluent spoken and written English and have good level of IT skills.
