Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with bid teams to embed environmental and sustainability measures into project proposals
- Support pre-construction and planning activities to ensure compliance and readiness
- Conduct environmental site inspections and contribute to internal audits using digital reporting systems
- Investigate environmental incidents, identify root causes, and help implement lessons learned
- Track, analyse and report on environmental, sustainability and ESG data to inform decision-making
- Maintain and improve the Environmental Reporting System, ensuring accuracy and integrity
- Share case studies, best practice, and insights to support wider CSR and ESG objectives
- Facilitate internal meetings to encourage collaboration and promote a strong sustainability culture
- Contribute to the wider SHEQ strategy through effective data management and communication

Essential Experience
- Degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability or a related discipline
- Knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems
- Strong understanding of UK environmental regulations
- Comfortable working with sustainability KPIs and reporting metrics
- ISO 14001 internal auditor qualification
- Experience creating EMS documentation and procedures
- Understanding of digital reporting platforms
- Background in manufacturing, construction, or similar regulated industries

About the Role

- Private Water Supplies and Smoke Control
- Planning & Licensing consultations
You’ll help shape service strategy, resolve high-profile or complex issues, and play a key part in staff training, coaching, and mentoring.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Environmental Protection team operationally and strategically
- Oversee performance, work allocation, training and appraisals
- Personally handle complex or contentious cases
- Maintain and develop operational standards, compliance and SOPs
- Support the Environmental Health Business Manager in budget management and strategic planning
- Represent the service internally and externally, including complaints and appeal responses
- Support emergency response and out-of-hours services (as required)
Requirements:
- Proven experience in environmental protection, with a strong working knowledge of environmental health legislation
- Leadership or supervisory experience within local authority or similar setting

- Excellent mentoring, coaching, and team development skills
- Confident communicator, able to liaise at all levels internally and externally
- Member of CIEH or equivalent professional body is desirable
