This challenging and exciting Design & Estimating Engineer opportunity requires an individual with a good technical background and demonstrable experience in taking the responsibility for producing designs and / or tenders from within the piling, foundations or ground engineering sector, which can be from either a consultancy or contractor background.
Due to continued expansion, an abundant pipeline of works, and the recent award of a number of long-term major contracts, our client is now looking to appoint an individual who will take the responsibility for producing designs and / or tenders for a wide variety of piling projects and scopes of work. The successful candidate must be able to review enquiry documentations to determine the key considerations associated with the proposed project. Our client seeks a high calibre candidate possessing ambition, enthusiasm and drive to make an impact. You will have good technical acumen coupled with a positive interest in ground engineering as a whole. You will also offer a professional approach and a keen eye for detail, along with excellent communication and IT skills.
The Role
- To understand and deliver the client's requirements and liaise with clients / main contractors to optimize the best engineering solution.
- Ensure the appropriate selection of piling technique is chosen to suit the ground conditions.
- Undertake geotechnical analysis using in-house and commercially available software in accordance with the relevant codes of practice, prepare reports for submittal to clients and respond to technical queries or requests raised during the contract lifecycle.

Summary:
As a Quotations & Estimating Engineer, you will play a key role in the Quotes Department, providing accurate and competitive costings for mechanical assemblies and cable harnesses. These range from small boxes with a single PCB to full 19” rack systems combining COTs and custom-designed chassis, electronics, and cables.
You will use a methodical approach to break down assembly operations into costed elements, ensuring timely quotations for both new and existing customers.
Responsibilities:
• Prepare quotations for cost-effective assembly of new products, particularly general assembly and box build work, by assessing manufacturing processes and times
• Break down customer requirements into elements for purchasing and manufacturing, even when outside standard scope of works
• Become fully conversant with the Epicor ERP system, particularly the quotes section, including producing reports
• Create Bills of Materials aligned to customer requirements, using stocked parts where possible and sourcing new product lines when required
• Produce offline cost calculations using standard Excel templates
• Send BOMs to suppliers and prepare accurate material costings based on responses • Challenge suppliers on pricing to secure the most competitive costs
• Liaise with production teams to review and validate assembly times against quotes
• Work closely with Managing Director, Sales Director, production, purchasing, and engineering teams
• Ensure compliance with ISO9001:2008 and AS9100 quality standards • Support and uphold the company’s environmental policies and procedures
Key Skills & Experience:
Essential:
• Proven experience in costing and estimating within mechanical assemblies, electronics, or cable harnesses
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and time-cost analysis
• Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel
