PE Global is recruiting a Facilities Engineer (Grade 7) for our scientific client based in Reading.
The role is a 6-month contract, with a PAYE rate of £19.07 per hour. The position is based onsite and operates Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm (36 hours per week).
Responsibilities
- Carry out general building maintenance and handyman duties (e.g. basic plumbing, decorating, furniture assembly).
- Respond to maintenance issues and breakdowns to ensure laboratory and office spaces remain safe and operational.
- Drive the company van to transport goods/samples between sites and collect materials from local suppliers.
- Support the Facilities Manager with office/lab refurbishments, fit-outs, and space repurposing projects.
- Liaise with contractors and ensure all work complies with HSE and internal safety policies.
- Assist with energy monitoring and sustainability initiatives across the site.
- Carry out first-level troubleshooting for Building Management Systems (BMS) – experience with Trend systems is advantageous.
- Support with HVAC diagnostics and repairs where possible.
- Be available for occasional out-of-hours work for planned maintenance or emergency call-outs.
- Request quotes from approved suppliers, ensuring best value and efficiency.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in a similar facilities, maintenance, or building services role.
- Practical skills in one or more of the following areas:
- Carpentry/joinery
- Plumbing/HVAC
- Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Experience with planned preventative maintenance (PPM) desirable.
- Educated to GCSE level (including Maths and English).
- Computer literate – proficient with Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Full, clean UK driving licence (essential).
- Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team.
- Must be fluent in English.

This position is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of our multisite facility, ensuring they are safe, functional, and visually appealing for all visitors and staff. The successful candidate will be involved in a variety of tasks, including general maintenance, plumbing, painting, groundskeeping and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine checks on the facilities, highlighting any defects or H&S concerns, Log defects, and schedule in repairs.
- Host external contractors on arrival to site, to conduct routine repairs to the facilities.
- Conduct regular emergency light testing, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and standards.
- Perform fire alarm testing and consult with relevant authorities to ensure the systems are up-to-date and fully operational.
- Conduct minor plumbing repairs, such as fixing leaks, unclogging drains, and maintaining water systems within the facility.
- Assist with general painting and decorating duties to maintain the aesthetic standards of the facilities.
- Perform routine maintenance across the building, including fixing and replacing light bulbs, electrical fixtures, and ensuring all areas are in good working order.
- Use forklift truck to offload equipment into warehouse. (Training course can be arranged if no prior experience).
- Contribute to the Legionella testing compliance program, ensuring that water systems are regularly checked and maintained according to safety standards.
- Respond quickly to emergency requests, prioritizing urgent issues to minimize downtime for staff and visitors.
- Assist in the upkeep of HVAC systems, ensuring they are functioning correctly and efficiently.
- Maintain an organized and safe working environment, following health and safety guidelines.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure smooth operations and resolve any maintenance-related issues as they arise.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance and repair work, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
- Grass Cutting, hedge trimming, weed control, litter picking, cleaning of hard surfaces.
- You may be asked from time to time be asked to undertake other tasks that are relevant to your position.
Requirements:
- Good standard of general education.
- Recognised trade preferred (Joiner, Electrician, HVAC engineer, painter Multiskilled engineer).
- Forklift Licence preferred.
- IPAF Licence preferred.
- Experience of working in commercial office environment.
- Clean, valid driving licence.
- Relevant experience working as a caretaker and or tradesperson background.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Ability to work on own initiative or as part of a team.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
As our Facilities Engineer you will support the Ashford factory Facilities Engineering function with day-to-day Engineering duties, routine and planned maintenance, contractor supervision, maintain Engineering budgets and Capital Projects.
Your main focus :
+ Attend regular team meeting reviews with the Facilities Leadership Team to determine consistent and agreed working methods are adopted in relation to: equipment safety, Engineering procedures and practices and equipment/parts standardization."
+ Assist in improving the Current maintenance strategy for the range of assets within the Value Stream. Control this using the Planned Preventative Maintenance review system
+ Work in conjunction with the Facilities Manager to introduce new equipment and system requirements, ensuring that facilities effectively meet the evolving business needs of the site
+ Ensure all equipment is maintained on a scheduled basis, and that new equipment/tooling guarantees all products produced meet the required quality specifications. Provide engineering support for the continuous improvement of product quality
+ Follow all company safety procedures and adhere to all processes, procedures and guidelines in place
