Job Description

Product Director Opportunity: Pioneering Consumer Innovation (B2C)

numi is exclusively retained as the hiring partner for this pivotal Product Director opportunity within a leading and well-backed consumer group. This role represents a unique chance to lead a zero-to-one product from its inception to significant market scale, operating with the agility of a startup powered by the resources and reach of a major established business.

The Vision: We are building a groundbreaking digital product, currently in its incubation phase, aimed at revolutionising how consumers manage their homes and personal finances . The initial focus is on empowering homeowners to optimise their energy consumption and spending by leveraging nuanced, personalised data from smart devices. This foundational product is envisioned as a "Trojan horse" for broader expansion, with the long-term goal of creating a comprehensive, hyper-personalised platform that integrates insights across various home services, including financial management and other essential consumer verticals. Ultimately, the ambition is for this product to become one of the top 15 most actively used apps, checked daily by millions of users, much like leading personal finance or fitness applications.

What You'll Be Building: This is a multi-million pound product line in the making , slated to achieve over 1 million users and hundreds of thousands of monthly active users within its first year. You will be at the forefront of changing consumer behaviour, guiding individuals to make smarter, more informed decisions about their household management. The product is primarily business-to-consumer (B2C) , with a strong focus on delivering highly personalised digital experiences.

The Team and Role: You will join a small, agile, cross-functional team of 8-12 people , currently comprising a senior product manager, designers, engineers, and an analyst. As the most senior product leader for this new venture, you will directly manage the senior product manager and potentially grow your direct reports to 2-4 as the team expands to 15-20 individuals. This role offers a unique "Goldilocks" level of responsibility:

  • Directly reporting to the CEO of one of the group's flagship brands, ensuring high visibility and strategic influence.
  • Engaging in strategic influence at the board level , without necessarily being a board member on day one.
  • Requiring a hands-on, roll-your-sleeves-up execution mindset (approximately 70% execution, 30% strategy initially) to drive tangible results from concept to launch.

Who We Are Looking For: We seek a Product Director (or equivalent VP/Exec Ldr of Product) with a proven track record of:

  • Startup-y Mindset & 0-1 Execution: Experience in building and scaling products from an early stage within a larger organisational context is crucial. This involves balancing entrepreneurial drive with the structure and governance of an established group.
  • Personalised Consumer Products: Deep experience leading product for highly personalised consumer offerings that leverage large, nuanced datasets to provide recommendations or suggestions. Examples of relevant experience could come from sectors like health tech, smart home, or consumer apps focused on individual data insights (e.g., those tracking personal fitness, banking, or travel data).
  • Full Product Ownership: Ability to own the entire product vision, positioning, and execution from strategy through to scaling, achieving measurable business outcomes.
  • Consumer-Centric & Data-Driven: A passion for understanding user needs and a rigorous, data-informed approach to product development, focused on creating truly personalised customer journeys.
  • High-Impact Leadership: Demonstrated ability to build, mentor, and lead high-performing cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration and achieving impact.

Logistics & Compensation:

  • Location: Hybrid working model, requiring 2 days per week in a central London office.

With a focus on US partners, your expertise in US banking regulations will be a key asset in redefining how users manage their finances.

What You Will Do:

  • Develop, maintain, and communicate the team’s roadmap, aligning milestones and dependencies with strategic priorities.
  • Drive complex projects by defining features, writing product specifications, iterating on user feedback, reviewing QA test plans, prioritizing bug fixes, managing backlogs, and shipping products/features on time.
  • Engage with customers to build empathy and ensure their needs are met.
  • Prioritize initiatives, weighing trade-offs to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Collaborate with design, frontend, and backend teams to deliver first-in-class features.
  • Monitor market trends and dynamics to ensure the products remain best-in-class.
  • Represent the team in cross-functional communications with internal stakeholders.

Who You Are:

  • 10+ years of product management experience in fintech; deep knowledge of US payment systems and cash clearing networks is highly preferred.
  • Strong ability to translate technical APIs into impactful user stories.
  • Hands-on approach with meticulous attention to detail, particularly in settlement flow design.
  • Data-informed decision-making combined with a user-centric perspective.
  • Passion for crafting exceptional customer-facing products and experiences.
  • Strong work ethic and adaptability to meet tight deadlines when needed.
  • Proven ability to manage C-level stakeholders and clearly articulate prioritization decisions.
  • Demonstrated leadership, taking ownership and delivering measurable results.
  • Excellent collaboration skills, working seamlessly with designers, engineers, QA, marketing, compliance, and growth teams.
