Trial Balance Consulting are delighted have been exclusively engaged by a new client, a genuinely exciting start-up business operating in an environmentally focussed industry sector. The company has developed an innovative piece of machinery with accompanying processes that have caught the attention of a number of prospective major customers and external investors. The company have tasked us with sourcing a Financial Controller and the role represents an exceptional opportunity to join a company that is likely to grow very quickly under the management of a very experienced board team. This is a full time, permanent position to be based at the company’s headquarters in Plymouth.

Reporting to the company’s CFO, the successful candidate will lead the day-to-day operational finance function for the business, with a clear vision of recruiting and developing a dedicated accounting team. Key responsibilities to include:

- Maintain and develop a full range of robust financial controls, systems and policies prioritising rapid growth in revenue

- Production of high quality management reports with accompanying commentary for CFO

- Complete management of the AP/AR and transactional function

- Develop long term relationships with key external stakeholders

- Produce high quality consolidation accounts and reconciliations

- Produce budgeting and forecasting packs

- Develop high quality capital project material

- VAT reporting and general HMRC statutory compliance

- Oversee the monthly payroll function

- Work closely with the SMT on a range of ongoing business projects

The candidate we’re searching for: Probably (but not essentially), trained and professionally qualified (ACA/ACCA/CIMA), with solid commercial experience ideally gained within the engineering, construction or manufacturing sectors. Experience gained with a start-up or tech business would hit the jackpot, but all sector experience considered. The role calls for sound technical accounting experience in the traditional sense but more importantly, commercial awareness that can be honed to a rapidly evolving business. The CFO anticipates this person quickly developing the finance function and growing the team. The business is highly technology focussed utilising a number of digital accounting tools and APIs linked to Xero.Strong people management skills, the ability to communicate effectively across multiple departments and external stakeholders will be requisite. We are looking for a Financial Controller to join our senior management team, working closely with the Operations Director and Group Controller to oversee all financial matters pertaining to Teledyne Valeport, including US GAAP based on monthly accounts, provision of rolling forecasts and business plans. The successful candidate will have a previous proven record of working autonomously across the wider business functions.
This is a hands on role, working in a small Finance team, and there is an expectation that the successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of Finance.
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ To implement/support new systems in accordance with corporate requirements
+ To ensure the internal control environment is in place and controls are operating effectively and in accordance with documented procedures required for SOX.
+ Support and assist the Site Director and Group Controller.
+ Create monthly management accounts together with the financial accountant and ensure timely circulation of Key Performance Indicators and variances against budget and forecasts, optimising information content for non-financial users.
+ Control managed working capital and maximise cash generation.
+ Monitor and control of costs, ensuring costing system accuracy.
+ Contract review to include initial customer credit review, pricing and margin assessment, FX impact including embedded derivative status and payment terms.
+ Liaise with external agencies e.g. auditors, HMRC etc.
+ Liaise with internal audit team.
+ Ensure all corporate deadlines are adhered to.
+ Ensure all necessary data is provided for annual tax returns.
+ Recommend courses of action which ensure that profit opportunities are maximised.
+ Maintain the optimum use of the ERP system.
+ Manage, motivate, and ensure the training and development of the Finance department.
**Senior Management Responsibilities:**
+ Contributing to the delivery of short term, and construction of long-term business strategy.

Our client, a dynamic and growing organisation based in Plymouth, Devon, UK , is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Financial Controller to join their finance team. This is an exciting opportunity to take a lead role in financial operations and contribute to the strategic direction of the company. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of accounting principles, robust analytical skills, and the ability to manage complex financial data.
