Compass Associates are currently working in partnership with a growing business in Berkshire who are looking for a Financial Controller to join their team. Following an imminent acquisition, the successful candidate will have take ownership of financial operations and be a trusted partner to the business. Responsibilities:
- Oversee day-to-day finance operations, including Accounts Receivable (AR) and Accounts Payable (AP)
- Prepare and deliver timely, accurate monthly management accounts and variance analysis.Ensure robust balance sheet reconciliations and compliance with accounting policies.
- Drive continuous improvement in financial processes and controls.
- Deliver external audits, maintain controls and ensure compliance with Group policies and procedures.
- Act as a key finance partner to operational leaders, providing insights and analysis to support key decision-making.
- Support forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis to ensure operational and financial targets are met.
- Oversee the Payroll Manager to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing for all employees.
- Provide mentoring, guidance, and ensure effective collaboration across finance and HR functions.
Requirements:
- Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with strong financial control experience.
- Exposure working within a multi-site environment, with oversight of multiple P&L's
- Proven track record of managing AR, AP, payroll, and reporting processes.
- Strong working knowledge of PeopleSoft (SAP or similar ERP systems)
- Experience in business partnering with operational teams.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills, with ability to oversee both finance and HR/admin functions
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to deliver under tight deadlines.

As a Financial Controller you will lead AVK’s financial control, reporting and compliance functions, ensuring the accuracy, integrity and timeliness of financial information. The Financial Controller works in close partnership with the Head of Tax & Treasury and the Head of FP&A to deliver a cohesive finance function that supports both strategic planning and operational execution. This role is responsible for delivering robust month-end and year-end processes, statutory and regulatory compliance, audit management, and the continual improvement of financial controls and systems to support AVK’s growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Control & Reporting
- Lead monthly management accounts process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Own the integrity of the balance sheet and key reconciliations.
- Prepare and consolidate statutory financial statements under UK GAAP.
- Coordinate and manage the external audit process.
- Drive improvements in financial reporting, systems and processes, in conjunction with the Head of FP&A.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure full compliance with financial regulations (e.g. VAT, corporation tax, PAYE/NIC), working closely with the Head of Tax & Treasury.
- Maintain and develop the internal control framework, ensuring segregation of duties and risk mitigation.
- Prepare and submit financial returns, including Companies House, HMRC etc.
- Support the implementation of new accounting policies and internal controls.
Team Leadership & Development
- Manage and develop the financial accounting team, supporting their progression.
- Collaborate with the Head of FP&A to ensure consistent data and strong cross-functional communication.
- Act as a finance lead for system/process improvements across the business.
Project & System Support
- Support the integration of acquired businesses into group reporting and controls.
- Lead finance inputs on system upgrades (e.g. NetSuite, Proscope, PowerBI).
- Assist with capital expenditure reviews, lease accounting and other finance-led projects.
Requirements
- ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified with post-qualification experience in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of UK GAAP (FRS 102) and financial reporting best practices.
- Experience managing audits and producing statutory accounts.
- Strong Excel, accounting systems (e.g. NetSuite), and reporting tools experience.
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
- Collaborative mindset, able to work effectively with Tax, Treasury, and FP&A leaders.
