Our client are a precision manufacturing business, based in Birmingham, specialising in machining and assembly of high value low volume components. Working within the Engineering Team, the CFD Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and developing the existing company product range and creating solutions to customer problems from within this portfolio primarily into the naval marine sector but also other marketplaces including civil nuclear. Working within the Engineering function the CFD Engineer will promote excellence and quality throughout the Company, always applying sound Engineering judgement and practices.

CFD Engineer

Job Description

As a CFD simulation engineer in this pivotal role, you will work with both Engineering Research and Development and areas to develop the mechanical and fluidics modelling, definition development, and delivery of system level models, consisting of multiple interconnected components, from different engineering disciplines.

Departmental duties will include but not be limited to:

• System Design Model – work with necessary stakeholders and prepare system CFD models for hardware design simulation
• System Functional and Non-Functional Analysis – carry out a rage of analysis and investigations to create the CFD models for the product.
• System Functional model and Physical model development: propose new and different methods and processes to achieve product performance.
• Based on the simulation result to guide or propose design optimization from structure, process, material and other design factors.
• Investigate new technologies and stay current on new product developments.
• Product Verification and Validation.
• Lead system model tests.
• Lead cross-functional technical design reviews on the models created.
• Responsible for system model documentation from initial proposals through first production release.
• Initiate and develop a working standard for a future CFD function for the benefit of the regional teams.
• To identify best external partner to assist and drive CFD model development
• To effectively manage assigned projects to ensure delivery on time and within budget.
• Maintaining products and procedures to European and International standards.
• Introducing and maintaining Engineering processes for technical design and validation.
• Considering the contracted requirements for validating products and creating appropriate procedures and programmes.
• Producing reports and project plans, autonomously or with the appropriate project lead.
• Producing technical documents in support of the design process.
• Participating in cross functional teams and collaborating with the engineering team accordingly.
• Liaise with development technicians to assess results from testing.

CFD Engineer

Essential Qualifications / Experience / Skills

• Background in CFD Modelling
• Hands on experience in virtual modelling to build and verify product solution to facilitate the design iteration
• Experience in a modelling development environment, preferably R&D or direct customer projects.
• Previous simulation CFD experience in development e.g pumps, valves, piping, automotive, oil/energy, aerospace, defence.
• Previous experience in model verification testing.
• In depth knowledge/experience of CFD modelling software such as STAR-CCM+, ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM or other commercial CFD codes

Due to the nature of the work, all candidates MUST be eligible for SC Clearance
