• Key Responsibilities

• Independently carry out a range of tasks in the field of analytics, including qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis of various materials associated with the Company's operations.

• Preparing, performing, and reporting analysis of raw materials, and finished products.
• Material sampling, QC analysis, method development analysis, and analysis in support of R&D chemists and production efficiently and accurately.
• Planning and organising of the workload, together with the Team Leader, and carry out plans of analytical work within the Quality parameters set out by the Company's QMS (Quality Management System) to ensure that Client needs are fully met.
• Support and execute laboratory investigations and aid in optimising operations.
• Maintain accurate records of all work carried out, and manage project documentation to a suitable level for external examination
• Fully support administrative aspects of QC operations from an analytical perspective (i.e. specification and analytical method logging procedure, documentation of work, assessing performed work, and traceable storage of all analytical data);
• Assist the QC Team Leader to ensure that all analytical equipment of the Company is maintained to a high standard, that Q.C analytical equipment is subjected to regular calibration, and that suitable records are maintained;

Skills & Experience

• Strong communication skills – Able to present information clearly to colleagues and clients.
• Excellent attention to detail and level of accuracy.
• Ability to perform complex analytical and procedural work and ensure that analytical methods and protocols are rigorously followed.
• Proficient in the use of MS Office, Word and Excel.

Requirements

• Qualified to degree (BSc) level in a chemistry related subject.
• Minimum 1 years' recent experience in a similar role.
• Background of HPLC, GC, IR and UV/Vis.
• Experience of working to industrial regimes such as GMP, UKAS or others (MHRA, FDA, and ICH) would be a distinct advantage.

Working Pattern

This is a full-time (40 hours weekly, including a daily 30-minute paid break) role. The jobholder should be willing to be flexible to occasionally work outside normal office hours, or additional hours at busy times of the year and/or for cover, as may be required from time-to-time. This role is predominantly site-based, with some flexibility for WFH depending on project requirements.

The QC Inspector may supervise coatings operatives during protective treatment works and has the authority to halt work if continuation would result in non-compliance. Close collaboration with Coatings Paint Manager(s) and Supervisor(s) is essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Establish and monitor compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and internal work instructions throughout the project lifecycle.

· Conduct inspections and tests as per the Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) and relevant references, such as project specifications, reporting formats, and internal instructions.

· Record and verify ambient conditions to ensure they are suitable for the required processes.

· Ensure materials are stored, handled, and used per manufacturer requirements, with traceability maintained.

· Oversee painting and blasting personnel to ensure contracted requirements are met, including the use of serviceable equipment.

· Verify that inspection and test equipment is calibrated and serviceable, and ensure personnel are trained in its proper use.

· Confirm that blast medium and coating materials comply with project specifications and ensure surface preparation meets required standards.

· Monitor dry film thickness, re-coating intervals, and curing activities to ensure adherence to specifications.

· Ensure identification marks or tags removed or overcoated are appropriately replaced.

· Prepare daily reports detailing work status and progress.

· Participate in internal and third-party audits of the company's quality control system.

· Liaise with client representatives for inspections and data outputs.

· Address and prevent non-compliance issues proactively during all preparation and coating activities.

The QC Inspector reports directly to the Contracts Manager daily and has an indirect reporting line to the Project Manager, Project Director and HSEQ Director on quality-related issues. Compliance with ISO9001:2015 guidance is essential.

The QC Inspector (Coatings) must hold qualifications to either NACE Level 3 or ICORR Level 3.

This role will play a vital role in supporting the optimisation of our various business lines within our Underwriting teams (UK, CE and APAC) by identifying data quality challenges against the various transformation activities Sompo is undertaking. Responsibilities
As an experienced Quality Control Manager and team leader you will provide effective and efficient governance oversight and reporting services to the UK COO and their leadership team with a holistic view on our reporting obligations and controls attestations (incl. JSOX controls). Some of the expected responsibilities include:

• Underwriting Operations Quality Control: Lead the quality control framework for the end-to-end underwriting operations processes provided by Operations both directly and through outsource providers. This will include:

• Spearhead the design and implementation of a robust quality control framework specific to underwriting support processes (e.g. pre-bind checks, documentation review, bordereaux handling, data entry, endorsements, referrals).

• Ensuring adherence to and alignment with the quality control framework, business objectives and regulatory requirements.
• Create and monitor the controls required to verify the completeness and accuracy of data in line with appropriate standards including but not limited to JSOX Requirements.
• Conduct regular reviews of Sompo's Underwriting operations tasks focusing on documentation accuracy, adherence to underwriting guidelines, service level compliance, and regulatory standards (e.g., Lloyd's, FCA, GDPR).
• Monitor risk data input, rating tool usage, policy issuance accuracy, authority breaches, and system integrity across core underwriting platforms.
• Monitor exceptions and own investigation towards successful resolution.
• Develop close relationships with underwriting teams and other functions (cross geographical) to align QC standards with technical underwriting expectations.

• Work with compliance, risk, and audit to ensure all operational processes meet internal control and regulatory requirements.

• Data Quality standards: Oversee and manage the full lifecycle of Data Quality Risk Reviews, including the initiation, documentation and resolution tracking. This will include:

• Conduct detailed root cause analysis to identify trends and systemic issues impacting data quality (standards, controls, and remediation strategies).

• Ensure alignment with Underwriting Guidelines, working closely with Underwriting, Compliance, and Data Management teams.

• Process Optimisation: Driving the continuous improvement of service delivery processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. This will include:

• Proactively lead on identifying process optimisation opportunities and deliver, in collaboration with other teams and third parties (where applicable) BAU enhancements to:

• reduce turnaround times, improving first-time accuracy, and enhancing underwriter satisfaction.

• streamline workflows.

• identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, handoff issues and/or duplication of effort.

• In collaboration with UK Change & Transformation, proactively support functional enhancements of Operations processes, including through the deployment of automation initiatives, including ensuring adherence to and/or updating of relevant controls.

• Supporting Operations teams, both onshore and offshore, by being a process subject matter expert on key underwriting processes.
• Business as usual activities that also include the following:
• Reporting: assume responsibility for all necessary QC reporting requirements into the operational management dashboard in an accurate and timely manner, including the preparation of regular quality and efficiency reports, all in collaboration with the Governance & Controls Oversight Manager.
• Training and Development: working closely with team leaders, identify training needs and future trends/themes to support the provision of training and development opportunities to enhance Operations skills and knowledge.
• Cross- collaboration and stakeholder management: building strong relationships as well as role-modelling collaboration across the wider Operations space (with both on- and offshore teams) by acting as a subject matter expert on key underwriting processes and their controls.

What You'll Bring

• Minimum years' experience in overseeing and delivering Quality Controls/Assurance reviews
• A good understanding of Operations (preferably within the London Insurance Market, but other industries would be considered as well).
• Experienced and confident team leader who fosters strong collaboration and positive/constructive engagement within the team and wider Operations function.
