Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive ecological surveys and forestry assessments, including habitat mapping and species identification.
- Evaluate the potential environmental impacts of development projects on woodland habitats and biodiversity.
- Prepare detailed EIA reports, including methodologies, findings, and recommendations for mitigation measures.
- Advise clients on forestry management practices that comply with environmental regulations and promote biodiversity.
- Collect and analyze data on forest structure, composition, health, and growth.
- Undertake tree condition surveys and hazard assessments.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant UK and EU environmental legislation, including the UK Forest Standard.
- Collaborate with other specialists (e.g., hydrologists, archaeologists) to provide integrated environmental advice.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders.
- Present findings and recommendations to clients and at public consultations when required.
- Manage project timelines and budgets effectively for assigned consultancy projects.
- A degree in Forestry, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline. A Master's degree or PhD is advantageous.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in forestry, ecological consultancy, or environmental impact assessment.
- In-depth knowledge of woodland ecology, biodiversity assessment, and UK flora and fauna.
- Proven experience in conducting EIAs and writing comprehensive technical reports.
- Familiarity with GIS software for data analysis and mapping.
- Excellent understanding of environmental legislation pertaining to forestry and land development.
- Strong field skills, including experience with survey equipment and techniques.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, often in remote or challenging conditions.
- Valid UK driving license and willingness to travel extensively across the region.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional membership (e.g., Chartered Forester, CIEEM) is highly desirable.

Do you have a passion for trees?
WSP has a large, highly experienced and friendly Ecology and Arboriculture team who get involved with a diverse range of interesting projects across a number of sectors within the UK for both private and public sector clients. The team pride themselves on the integrated support offered by working alongside in-house specialists to deliver commercially balanced, innovative and integrated solutions.
You will be expected to be involved with several projects concurrently and be a proactive member of the team. We have GIS and CAD specialists within WSP so knowledge of these systems is not required but is an advantage. Experience of working with digital data capture devices such as tablets in the field is preferred.
The Arboriculture and Forestry team and its projects are spread across the UK so there is flexibility on location.
**Your New Role, What's Involved?**
+ Site based surveys, assessments, measurements, inspections and monitoring in relation to BS5837:2012 and tree hazard assessments.
+ Collation and interpretation of arboricultural information from desk studies.
+ Preparing technical reports and feasibility studies, inputting into arboricultural impact assessments and arboricultural method statements.
+ Liaising with design team developing mitigation solutions.
+ Data analysis and project management.
