Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Forestry Management Consultant for projects across **Aberdeen** and surrounding regions. This role involves providing expert advice and strategic planning for sustainable forest management, conservation, and timber production. You will work with landowners, forestry businesses, and environmental agencies to develop and implement effective forestry strategies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducting forest inventories, health assessments, and ecological surveys.
  • Developing long-term forest management plans that balance timber production, biodiversity, and environmental goals.
  • Advising on sustainable harvesting techniques, reforestation, and afforestation projects.
  • Assessing timber resources and providing valuation services.
  • Monitoring forest health, identifying pests and diseases, and recommending control measures.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant forestry legislation and environmental regulations.
  • Preparing detailed reports, proposals, and technical specifications for clients.
  • Providing expert advice on forest certification schemes (e.g., FSC, PEFC).

The ideal candidate will possess a degree in Forestry, Environmental Management, or a related discipline, with a Master's degree being highly advantageous. Proven experience in developing and implementing forest management plans is essential. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are required. The ability to conduct fieldwork in various weather conditions is necessary. Experience with GIS and forest inventory software is a significant plus. This hybrid role requires a professional who can effectively manage their time between remote work (report writing, analysis, client communication) and on-site consultations and fieldwork. WSP has a large, highly experienced and friendly Ecology and Arboriculture team who get involved with a diverse range of interesting projects across a number of sectors within the UK for both private and public sector clients. The team pride themselves on the integrated support offered by working alongside in-house specialists to deliver commercially balanced, innovative and integrated solutions.
You will be expected to be involved with several projects concurrently and be a proactive member of the team. We have GIS and CAD specialists within WSP so knowledge of these systems is not required but is an advantage. Experience of working with digital data capture devices such as tablets in the field is preferred.
The Arboriculture and Forestry team and its projects are spread across the UK so there is flexibility on location.
**Your New Role, What's Involved?**
+ Site based surveys, assessments, measurements, inspections and monitoring in relation to BS5837:2012 and tree hazard assessments.
+ Collation and interpretation of arboricultural information from desk studies.
+ Preparing technical reports and feasibility studies, inputting into arboricultural impact assessments and arboricultural method statements.
+ Liaising with design team developing mitigation solutions.
+ Data analysis and project management.

+ Enthusiasm for arboriculture and willingness to learn

+ Experience in undertaking arboriculture surveys using digital data capture
+ Experience in inputting to and producing high quality technical arboriculture reports in support of planning applications
+ The ability to work in a pragmatic team of arboricultural, landscape and environmental professionals
+ Knowledge of relevant legislation and arboricultural survey methodologies
+ The flexibility to travel and work away from home within the UK regularly
+ A desire to develop your core arboriculture and consultancy skills
