Job Description
Varied electronics projects in communications, IoT and telecoms
Cambridge City; £Competitive + Benefits
Based in their offices and facilities in Cambridge, this engineering team work with partner companies to provide technical expertise and resources to develop solutions within communications-based electronics. Their innovations can be found in scientific instrumentation, satellite phone sets, voice detection systems and communications within robotics. They have repeatedly proven themselves with technologies used in both cellular and private networks, and look to deliver next-generation products.
The team are looking to recruit a senior level engineer to provide additional expertise and resources for on-going and future projects. Key aspects will include FPGA and ASIC development as well as high-performance board level electronics design. This will encompass a full range of digital electronics including PCB and FPGA design. Further, due to the complexities involved in their products, it is not uncommon that their electronics utilises signal processing, AI, RF and software components. This is very much a hands-on role, but there are opportunities for project technical leadership if you want this.
Requirements:
- You will have a degree in electronics or physics and possibly a relevant PhD (preferred). li>Your project experience will include substantial work around FPGA and ASIC design including verification using Verilog.
- Your general digital design experience with electronics should include the use of Altium (PCB design) and HyperLynx (signal integrity analyses) or similar.
- Additional experience with radio frequency systems, DSP, embedded software and / or requirements management using DOORS would be beneficial. Further experience with C++, VHDL, Python and Tcl would be desirable.
Due to the nature of projects, the role is mostly onsite, although occasional home working is possible when projects allow. In return, on offer is a competitive remunerations package including career support and opportunities for leadership.

Job Description
Key responsibilities include designing, coding, and simulating complex digital logic using VHDL or Verilog. You will be involved in the entire FPGA design flow, including synthesis, place-and-route, timing analysis, and power optimization using industry-standard tools (e.g., Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus). Developing and executing verification strategies, including testbenches and formal verification methods, is a critical aspect of this role. You will work closely with system architects, software engineers, and board-level designers to ensure seamless integration of FPGA solutions into larger systems. Debugging hardware issues, both in simulation and on-target hardware, will be a frequent task. You will also contribute to the definition of new product architectures and explore novel design approaches. A strong understanding of embedded systems, DSP, and high-speed digital design principles is essential.
We are seeking candidates with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, and a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in FPGA design and verification. Proven proficiency in VHDL and/or Verilog is mandatory, along with experience using FPGA development tools from major vendors (e.g., Xilinx, Altera/Intel, Lattice). Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, TCL) for automation is highly desirable. Experience with SoC design, embedded processors (e.g., ARM), and advanced verification methodologies like UVM is a significant plus. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills are required. You should possess strong communication abilities and be comfortable working collaboratively in a remote team environment. This role offers a challenging and stimulating environment to work on state-of-the-art technology with significant impact.
